LAUDERDALE COUNTY, ALABAMA: It has been almost a year since former Lauderdale County jailer Vicky White, 56, killed herself after fleeing with convicted criminal and lover Casey White, 39. The straight-out-of-a-movie story unraveled after investigators determined the pair shared a "special relationship," stemming from a two-year affair, that culminated in the former veteran of the force allegedly helping the criminal who was serving a 75 years prison sentence escape.

Vicky was the assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Jail in Florence, Alabama, 73 miles west of Huntsville. Surveillance footage of the prison showed Casey being led into a patrol car by Vicky after the latter told her colleagues she was taking him for a mental health evaluation. The pair ditched the patrol car and fled into Evansville, Indiana, prompting an 11-day manhunt until they were caught. At the time, the 56-year-old allegedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head while the 38-year-old was later apprehended. Although Casey was not one to pull the trigger, he was charged with felony murder for causing her death during his escape.

Following the tragedy, Casey's "special relationship" with the prison guard Vicky could seal his fate in the murder trial, Joseph Scott Morgan, a distinguished Scholar of Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University revealed. Morgan, who also hosts the true-crime podcast 'Body Bags', believes that prosecutors will bring in a forensics psychologist during the career criminal's upcoming trial to "talk about people that are manipulators." He built a "framework" to prove the theory that Casey was a "master manipulator,” Morgan explained. He alleged that this isn’t a case of someone “manipulating somebody just off the street."

Vicky was a 25-year employee and director of corrections at the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office who "should have seen a lot of the tricks that [convicts] play," said Morgan. "She was drawn into this," Morgan said while adding that Vicky was also responsible for the prison escape. Morgan said prosecutors should show surveillance video of Casey and Vicky “from within the jail and then you toss in everything that happened during the escape … and then those days they were on the run,” reported The Sun. In addition, investigators learned the pair allegedly spoke to each other on phone nearly 1,000 times over a six-month period before they decided to flee on the morning of April 29, 2022.

The 38-year-old was behind bars after receiving 75 years of jail time for scores of crimes committed in 2015, attempting to murder his former girlfriend Connie Ridgeway, 58, and abducting her two roommates. In July, Casey was “indicted for the felony murder of Vicky on the theory that he was part of the underlying crime that led to his girlfriend’s death and therefore bears criminal liability,” Law & Crime reported

Dismissing the murder charges, his attorney argued by saying, “Police dash cam and body cam recordings clearly show that at the conclusion of a car chase, the vehicle driven by [Casey] White wrecked and rolled over in a roadside ditch or median. Video clearly shows the deceased shot herself in the head and continued holding the gun in her hand as police approached. The death, in this case, was clearly a suicide and the Defendant can not (sic) be convicted for the death."
