Conservative author Candace Owens has blasted New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for her stand on minimum wage after she compared US’s to that of Denmark. AOC tweeted Tuesday night, March 2, “It is utterly embarrassing that ‘pay people enough to live’ is a stance that’s even up for debate. Override the parliamentarian and raise the wage. McD’s workers in Denmark are paid $22/hr + 6 wks paid vacation. $15/hr is a deep compromise - a big one, considering the phase in.”

Owens did not hold back against AOC while speaking on Fox News’ ‘Hannity’ as she said, “I will say this. With AOC you never let facts get in way of a good story. You know what I mean? That is her motto. Personally, I think we should give her the Nobel prize in economics. If we’ve got Andrew Cuomo winning an Emmy for his coronavirus briefings, despite the fact that he was allowing people to die, why not award AOC the Nobel prize in economics.”

She added, “It’s really quite simple. You know workers compete with other workers … they’re not competing with employers … and when you artificially raise the wage, it’s not going to harm employers, they’re just going to hire less people.”

AOC was disappointed with Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough for taking the decision that a minimum wage should not be included in the coronavirus relief package. The ruling has become a key flashpoint for the Democrats, with some appreciating the decision while others, including Joe Manchin and President Joe Biden saying it may not happen. Republicans have also opposed the judgment.

Meanwhile, people on Twitter reacted to Owens’ comment on AOC as one user said, “They both get things wrong, but in this case Candace is implying that AOC was talking about a legislated minimum wage. She wasn't. Denmark does not have a *legislated* minimum wage but they DO have strong unions that impose strong wages from below…” The second user commented, “I never here her promote ‘White traditionalism’ what I here her promoting is the strength of the black family and Criticizing the far left for promoting an idea that people of color need white people to help and support them because they can’t do it on there own.”

The third user tweeted, “Candace couldn’t even complete here degree, so obviously she’s more qualified to talk about what is good for a country. Like honestly, you think AOC hits for feelings? What do you think Candace does when she talks about the white traditionalism that y’all miss sooo much?” “7.25/hr is $1,160 a month. And you need public assistance to barely eke a hand to mouth existence. Tax payers are footing the additional public assistance. Cost of living has increased. So must wages! @RealCandaceO try living on that for 6 months!” one person said while another added: “Isn't she the person suing factcheckers b/c they are interfering w/her making $30K a month & at the same time asking people to donate to her legal costs. I don't get why ppl are ok w/ppl getting rich by grifting, while not wanting ppl who work their asses off making a living wage.”
