Candace Owens says posting National Guards in DC not linked to Capitol riots, Internet calls her 'lunatic'

She called the posting of National Guards 'bizarre' and said linking it to January 6 was bizarre as well

Candace Owens was slammed by social media users after her tweet seemed to imply former President Donald Trump's impeachment trial had nothing to do with the Capitol riots that erupted on January 6. She said she found it absurd that President Joe Biden had decided to station National Guard troops at the Capitol. "I don’t know what’s more bizarre — The fact that D.C is still basically under military occupation and Biden’s confirmed plans to keep the national guard here through to March, or the fact that there are still people who believe this has anything to do with January 6th." she tweeted.

This led to some major flak for the Conservative author. "You know better. Why do you continue the charade? You should be ashamed of yourself. You all are either actual or virtual unpatriotic seditious insurrectionists. You all are criminals!" read one of the tweets. "Your lunacy knows no bounds! They are here to keep you and your white Christian Republicans from killing, assaulting, and trying everything to destroy democracy. Try using your undeserved platform to champion for health equity, Police reform, valuing Black lives, anti-racism!" seconded another.

"Maybe if Trump didn't cause this to happen, we wouldn't be in this situation" one of the comments read. The slamming continued to trickle. "1. If there wasn't a deadly attack by Trump supporters there wouldn't be 'military occupation' in DC 2. Without Trump and his enablers (Candace, Kirk, Hannity, Cruz, Tucker, etc) there wouldn't have been an attack on the Capitol. Candace are you proud of your place in history?"

One wrote: "oh, I like this game! My turn, what’s bizaar‘r than bizaar? The fact that we are in real-life groundhog day starting the year with taxpayer-wasted, strictly political impeachment theater, or the fact that WE know, THEY know there‘s still 74M+ actual voters out there," one of the people opined.

In related news, Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. leapt to his father's defence when he called the Democrats' video clips "deceptively edited." Talking on Fox News' Hannity show on Tuesday night hours, "Candidly, whatever my father said on January 6 was mild in comparison," he said, adding, "If you were to take his speech and compare it to literally any stump speech in history, you would not see any deviation," he said.

The Senate voted 56-44 to move forward with Trump's impeachment trial, with only six Republicans joining all 50 Democrats against the former president.
