LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Pete Davidson, the popular ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member and comedian, has come forward with his new series called ‘Bupkis’. The eight-part series, which is available on NBC’s streaming platform Peacock, features Davidson playing a fictionalized version of himself. It is a “heightened fictionalized version” of Davidson’s life who is trying to make his life simpler by doing things that would bring some difference. However, it’s not that easy because people keep on trolling for things and he, himself, keeps on doing things that might put him in trouble.

Bupkis’ is a series that follows the story of the comedian-turned-actor who is trying to navigate the world of show business while struggling with mental health issues and his personal life. One of the most standout aspects of the series is how unique it is. Its distinctive approach to storytelling is a treat to watch and rather than following a traditional narrative structure, each episode jumps between various timelines and characters, creating a complex portrait of Davidson’s life. The show sees Davidson at different stages of his life and career, providing a glimpse into the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. However, it mainly focuses on what Davidson went through during his life and mixes those real-life situations with funny moments.

'Bupkis' has a unique approach to storytelling

Apart from his professional life, it also touches on important themes such as mental health, the struggles of fame, and getting canceled. One of the most extraordinary moments in the series comes when Davidson’s mother finds out about his death. Of course, someone just posted fake news about his death, and every media outlet carried out the news without even verifying the news. It shows how their family members also live in fear because of such fake news and the cancel culture. ‘Bupkis’ gives viewers a good look at the realities of these issues.

Even with so many serious themes, the show is filled with humorous situations and is packed with plenty of humor. Davidson’s comedic prowess is on full display throughout the series and provides a lot of laugh-out-loud moments.

Despite all of this, the series might not be for everyone. It gets really weird sometimes and the fiction part of the story seems to be over-the-top. Some plotlines in the series might make viewers feel a bit disconnected.

Is 'Bupkis' worth watching?

Acting-wise, Pete Davidson has done a phenomenal job in playing a character that’s self-deprecating, dark, and politically incorrect. The former SNL star has never been shy away from speaking about his mental health and this series serves as a form of therapy for him. However, Joe Pesci is the real MVP here and gives a performance that will be remembered for years. He is as good as he was in his younger days.

Edie Falco is mesmerizing as well and outshines Pesci in some sequences.

All in all, ‘Bupkis’ is a unique series that showcases Davidson’s talent as a performer and a creator. It manages to offer an honest look at how a celebrity struggles in his personal life, while also providing a lot of humorous moments. Even if you are not a fan of the comedian’s work, ‘Bupkis’ is surely worth checking out.
