MEAWW previously reported that five people were discovered dead in the 2800 block of Acacia Terrace on Wednesday. Officers were dispatched to the apartment around 11:12 am after receiving a request for a welfare check on a woman, where they discovered five bodies.

Brian Budds, the chief of police in Buffalo Grove, reaffirmed that the investigation is "very active and ongoing." The public is not in danger, he claimed, as per reported by NBC5. "On behalf of the men and women of the Buffalo Grove Police Department along with the entire Village board and staff, our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the victims of this tragic incident. Today is a very sad day for our community as we continue to process this unthinkable event," Budds said. "It's devastating and traumatic as you can imagine," Budds added. "You don't necessarily train for that. We are resilient by virtue of what we do, but nothing really prepares you for that. It was a horrific sight."

One of the children was a student at Ivy Hall Elementary School, and the children who were found dead were siblings, according to Buffalo Grove's District 96. "Both girls were known to be happy and cheerful children," D96 Superintendent Kathryn Sheridan wrote in a letter to families. "Our hearts go out to all who knew them."

Several nearby residents told that they had occasionally seen police arrive at the house, CBN News, reported. "I grew up here, so it's just so shocking for this to happen in a place that I grew up in a safe area," said one neighbor named Michelle. "It's something I'm still trying to wrap my head around. This isn't how it's supposed to be, especially around the holidays." He continued, "You see people moments before, and then they're gone. It's like trying to retrace like interactions - or did you notice anything? And all those things kind of run through your mind." The neighbour added, "How do we move on from this, or how do we cope as a community? Those kids are supposed to outlive you; outlive their parents; have families of their own - and it's just cut short."
