MOSCOW, IDAHO: Bryan Kohberger, the suspected killer behind the murders of the four University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, on November 13, 2022, allegedly left "horrific" clues that are key to his possible conviction. Joseph Scott Morgan, a distinguished Scholar of Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University, believes there are "a lot of biological tiebacks and threads that will be very significant in this case," one of them being the Ka-Bar knife sheath that was left behind at the home of the victims.
Talking to The Sun, Morgan also believes the knife sheath will again appear as evidence in the court if Kohberger stands trial. “I think particularly when you go before a jury if you can put a physical weapon into the hand of the alleged perpetrator, that's powerful stuff. In this particular case, this weapon, these injuries, I don't know that anybody can fathom what they're going to see in court. It's gonna be really horrific."

Morgan added the jury will want to "see the means by which these were generated. The sheath, the knife, if they can get their hands on it, is gonna be significant in here.” He also emphasized Kohberger's white Hyundai Elantra being "a rolling crime scene" as he said, "[Kohberger] walked into the scene clean, he came out, he would’ve been bathed in blood."
Evidence that was seized...
Court documents that were made public on February 23, 2023, as per ABC 7 Chicago, stated that items, including a knife, a pocketknife, and a Glock 22 handgun with three empty magazines, were seized from Kohberger’s parents' residence in Chestnuthill Township. A cell phone and a laptop were also obtained. The documents also revealed that black face masks and gloves, as well as numerous articles of dark-colored clothing, were found.
Kohberger's car and his garage were also searched when he was arrested on December 30, 2022. Following the search, the authorities took a door panel from the car, seat cushions, headrests, seatbelt, visor, brake and gas pedals, a band-aid, "maps and documents" and other items, including clothing and a shovel.
Morgan said "there is physical connectivity" between what Kohberger brought out of his Moscow house and what was left inside the car. He said Kohberger “sat down in that seat, cranked that car up and he left and he essentially inoculated that environment with all of this physical evidence that he brought out of that house. And then when he got out of that car, he introduced potential evidence into his own dwelling.” He further said, "You look at it and it seems like a daunting task, but it's like a thousand-piece jigsaw puzzle that somebody's just randomly thrown on the floor. But there are people right now that are assembling all the little edge pieces.”
When is the preliminary hearing of Bryan Kohberger?
The preliminary hearing of Kohberger, who was extradited from Pennsylvania to Idaho on January 4, 2023, has been set for June 26, as previously reported. Investigators have yet to identify a motive in the mysterious case. However, Kohberger continues to deny any involvement in the murder but has not entered a plea yet.
