Bruce Springsteen struck a rather unexpected chord with the Super Bowl LV audience after the singer starred in a commercial for Jeep. The two-minute-long ad features 'The Boss' narrating a deep monologue dedicated to 'The ReUnited States of America'. The commercial has a not-so-subtle political undertone, as prominent anti-Trump icon Springsteen reminds of the struggles of polarization and politics in the past four years.

However, the commercial seemed to have failed to serve its intended purpose. While a majority is slamming Springsteen for using a much-needed socio-political message for a mere car commercial, others are hailing him for the powerful advertisement. Fans are also considering this as a fall from grace for the legendary singer as he is hardly ever seen endorsing any product or star in a commercial.

"I was encouraged by this commercial, it felt like just the message we needed to hear. Thanks @Jeep! I am a life long Jeeper #olllllo #commonground," wrote one user. "I love Bruce, but that was a miss," summed up another in simple words.

What was the ad about?

The Jeep ad in question attempted to invoke a feeling of patriotism hinting at the new political leader in power. Titled 'The Middle', the ad sees Springsteen in front of the US Center Chapel in Lebanon, Kansas, located at the precise geographical center of the lower 48 states of the USA. “It’s no secret, the middle has been a hard place to get to lately, between red and blue, between servant and citizen, between our freedom and our fear,” Springsteen can be heard narrating.

Driving his own 1980 Jeep CJ-5, Springsteen moves ahead on an empty road adding, "Our light has always found its way through the darkness. And there’s hope up on the road ahead.” He reminds every citizen that they are standing on a common ground - the very soil of their nation. The entire message is aimed to inspire viewers to unite in solidarity with a rebuilt nation, overcoming the problems of the past.

The beautiful and haunting background score of the ad was composed by Springsteen in collaboration with producer Ron Aniello, ending with a violin melody.

'He’s a capitalist to the bone'

The internet is flooded with a barrage of reactions about the Springsteen Jeep commercial, ranging from hilarious memes to noteworthy political messages. "My son thought that was Trump narrating that Jeep commercial, just fyi," one user admits. "BREAKING: Armed Trump supporters have stormed the church in the Bruce Springsteen Jeep ad," tweeted Trevor Noah. Another user said, "You can buy a Springsteen shirt at Abercrombie, it was about a check. I revere the man’s music, but he’s a capitalist to the bone."

"With one Jeep ad, my decades-long reluctance to jump on the Springsteen bandwagon has been validated," said one awestruck user. "It’s like being told to come together and find common ground with the people who spent four years saying 'fuck your feelings' and recently smeared shit all over the inside of the Capitol and murdered a cop. Thank you but I don’t think I will," a user expressed their displeasure.

Viewers are outraged about the message of finding a middle ground, as they believe it would not serve justice to the right-wing extremists who wronged the nation in the past four years. "@jeep & @springsteen one side want to get kids out of cages, end the pandemic & give everyone healthcare. The other wants to violently end democracy, believes black lives DO NOT matter & thinks lizard/Jews burn forests from space. So let's meet in the middle of those poles?"
