Brooklyn teen mob attack: 5 boys brought in for questioning after assault on 15-year-old girl
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: After the brutal beating of a young, unidentified girl from Brooklyn, five boys accompanied by their parents turned themselves into police custody for questioning regarding the crime. The boys were then questioned as suspects by the New York City Police Department. The NYPD has claimed to have found a motive for the beating.
At approximately 4.10 pm on Thursday, March 5, surveillance footage captured a mob of up to 20 teenagers in broad daylight chasing the girl until she fell onto the sidewalk, after which the teens who had been chasing her brutally attacked her, kicking her and stomping her head. The girl was then robbed of her Air Jordans, her phone and her debit card, according to reports. She was left on the sidewalk after having been beaten as the suspects quickly fled the scene.
The victim allegedly beat up another girl, earlier in the day and the mob violence against the victim was reportedly in retaliation for that fight, according to the Post. The teenagers who beat the victim up were allegedly friends of the girl who the victim got into a fight with. The victim was rushed to the hospital with head trauma but has since been released.
Five of those boys turned themselves in, accompanied by their parents earlier on Friday, March 6. Their names and ages have not been identified, and as of Saturday, March 7 morning, no charges have been filed. The perpetrators of the attack are all wanted for robbery and gang assault.
Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey of NYPD Brooklyn North has posted his outrage on Twitter. '"..this is sickening video of a 15 year old girl viciously attacked by a group of school children," he wrote on Twitter, adding, "One young man takes the sneakers right off the unconscious victim’s feet. The teenager is in the hospital recovering. We CAN NOT allow this behavior in our community."
Anyone with information in regard to the identity of these individuals is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
