Is 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Season 8 bringing back Gina? Fans are already losing their sh*t and want Dianetti kiss

When creator Dan Goor tweeted a long-awaited announcement about the scripts for Season 8 commencing, Chelsea Peretti had some suggestions

NBC's 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' has been through the proverbial hell of cancellation and back, and yet, somehow the most painful thing the show has had to endure is the loss of Gina Linetti.

With Chelsea Peretti breathing life into the snarky, narcissistic and possibly sociopathic Gina, she soared to popularity since the get-go. Over the years she became the queen of keeping it real — just your regular human form of the 100 emoji. And even though her mother cried the day she was born, we know she isn't wrong when she claims she would "make the perfect American President, based upon my skill set, dance ability, and bloodlust". So naturally, after enduring two long Gina-less seasons, the moment fans got a mere hint of Peretti reprising the role in Season 8, they hoped on with begs, requests and earnest pleas — crying for Gina's return as she is our "only hope in these times".

Peretti had last appeared as Gina in a recurring feature on Season 6 episode 'Four Movements'. Ahead of that, she had returned in the latter half of the fifth season once but has been MIA from all the action pretty much from Season 5.

Even as the only civilian onboard the fictional 99th Precinct of NYPD, as the Captain's assistant, Gina managed to make one of the significant impressions on her coworkers as well as viewers. Why? Well, there's simply nobody else like the mother of Enigma 'Iggy' Linetti-Boyle. Even when she was off on her maternity leave, Gina managed to return for an hour and terrify the wits out of condescending cybercrime guys with her stalking skills. So just a few hours ago, when creator Dan Goor tweeted a long-awaited announcement about the scripts for Season 8 commencing and Peretti hopped on with her signature quirk, asking him to "hit me w a zoom link if u wanna discuss my arc," fans pretty much lost their s**t.

We have missed Gina dissing on everybody — from Raymond Holt's (Andre Braugher) self-righteousness and Jake Peralta's (Andy Samberg) unorganized living to how boring Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) and her dressing sense actually are. Let's not even get to Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) or Hitchcock and Scully.

The only person Gina could never dish on was Rosa Diaz, probably why Stephanie Beatriz felt compelled to reply to Peretti's suggestion with "already on it". Apart from Gina never being able to take the piss out of the dark and brooding mushball Rosa, fans had always clung on to the hopes of seeing a romance bloom between the two, which they labeled the Dianetti ship. So this was the perfect occasion for them to weigh in on Beatriz's eagerness, urging them to bring back Gina just to give them the Dianetti romance they have considerably missed out on all this while.

While the mere thought of Gina returning was labeled "THIS. This is the only cure for the pandemic," by a fan on Twitter, another just cried out loud, sharing: "Can we just bring back Gina please? I’m suffering greatly without her."

A third fan also shared, "Gina returning is the only hope in these times." A fourth even quipped with plot suggestions, saying: "That should be Gina's arc. Randomly appearing on screens in the precinct like Easter eggs in an episode." From "Chelsea we need you" to "It's not just the same without you", fans were pouring in with requests to the actor-comedian turned musician, whose latest EP just released. But that was until Beatriz chimed in with her 2 cents and the response shifted gears to requesting the show to "make dianetti canon".

"I just need a dianetti kiss. I love you two and i'm thinking about this relationship for so long," requested a fan, while another shared, "can gina and rosa see each other this time? It has been Years since four movements," noting the last time the two shared screen space as their characters together. Well, technically, Rosa has just been dumped and knowing Gina, she is pretty sure not dependent on the Boyle cousin to raise a baby. So honestly, it's about frickin time the Nine-Nine gets together and makes Dianetti happen, just the way Charles did for Peraltiago to be canon.
