Brittany was a cherished science teacher at Walker Valley High School. According to social media posts, her former students, coworkers, and loved ones remember her as "more than a teacher." "I know now how lucky I was to be one of those few lucky students call Mrs. Dillard's class my safe space freshman year," a former student wrote in a Facebook post on December 27. "Mrs. Dillard was more than a teacher, she was a light at Walker Valley High School and a role model to so many. I’m sending all of my love and prayers to her 3 precious boys in these next days, months, and years, and to past and present mustangs who were lucky enough to bask in her light."

"Please continue to keep the Dillard Family in your thoughts and prayers. We are heartbroken for their loss," Bradley County Schools said in a tweet.

"I always enjoyed being in Mrs. Dillard’s classroom and talking to her kids about their class. Mrs. Dillard was the teacher you wish you could fill your school with. Dedicated to her craft, her students, and her teammates," another friend posted on Facebook. They continued, "I was always fascinated watching her care for her students as they were here own children. She was a wonderful mother and devoted wife. This fall semester I came to know her as one of my daughter’s teachers." The tribute added, "This is an unthinkable tragedy. I don’t know why this happened and I can’t see the big picture. But I am a man of faith in a Holy and sovereign Lord. I know based on her spoken testimony that Brittney and Dustin are both safe, whole, and in the presence of Christ our King."
