Britsh Airways passengers were left teary-eyed after being trapped in the plane for more than an hour. A British Airways flight from Nice (France) to Heathrow (London) was scheduled to leave on Monday evening, July 11, however, due to a missed take-off window and a rotational delay on the inbound service, the jet was forced to wait at the terminal for over one and half hour.

The aircraft loaded with passengers remained on the runway without the air conditioner. The suffocation resulted in many passengers feeling ill while some were left teary-eyed. The pilot was then forced to bring them back onto the aerobridge with the AC to let them cool off after receiving a lot of complaints and observing the situation of the passengers.

One angry passenger told MailOnline, “It’s disgraceful. It is hotter than hell on this plane. British Airways is slowly killing us. Passengers are crying and on the verge of passing out. It’s truly disgusting that they have no air conditioning. British Airways is literally a joke.” The cabin crew and pilot apologized to the passengers for the situation and gave them water while two passengers were reportedly escorted off the plane after they complained of sickness.

A passenger's video captured co-passengers standing inside the airplane, some of them sobbing and flapping their magazines and clothes to try to cool off. Following landing, passengers went to the front of the aircraft to inform the crew that they would 'pass out' during takeoff. A British Airways spokesperson later told Daily Mail, “There are some heavy ATC restrictions in France this evening, which delayed them getting a new slot.”

The past few weeks have been difficult for Britsh Airways. In terms of schedule disruption, the airline has been among the worst-affected carriers as the aviation industry struggles with rising demand and a lack of qualified personnel. In another blow, last week the airline announced it is going to cut 10,300 short-haul flights until the end of October 2022. The decision, which will result in fewer flights starting in August, brings the airline's overall rate of cancelations this summer to 13 percent. In a statement, the airline said: "It was not where we wanted to be but believed the cuts were the right thing to do for our customers and colleagues."
