Brien Buckley: Unhinged man attacks police station with CHAINSAW after cops refused to babysit his children
COHASSET, MASSACHUSETTS: During a several-hour standoff on Sunday, a man brandishing a chainsaw attacked a Massachusetts police station before locking himself and his two young children inside his home, according to authorities. Authorities say Brien Buckley, 35, tried to cut his way into the Cohasset, Massachusetts police station and is now facing 12 charges, including child endangerment and a deadly weapon assault.
Around 2.30 pm on Sunday, December 18, according to police, Buckley crossed the police station's yard, struck a tree on the property, got out of his pickup truck, and attacked the building while revving a gas-powered chainsaw, New York Post reports. According to cops, Brien Buckley dangled his children from a second-floor window before crashing his truck into a tree and running into the police department. He started to "damage the station lobby with the saw" and was "chopping at the security door, attempting to gain entry into a restricted area" where a civilian front desk staffer was working, as per police.

Officers rushed into the lobby after the receptionist's civilian employee pushed the emergency button, according to Cohasset Police Chief Bill Quigley. "We did have a civilian desk attendant on. She was able to barricade herself and call officers to assist her," Quigley stated. Buckley, armed with a chainsaw, attacked the police headquarters before running home and barricading himself inside with his two young daughters, both under the age of five.
Yahoo reports that photos taken from inside the department showed the broken door was taped and covered with brown paper. “Went in and basically terrorized the civilian desk attendant who was behind the security door and security glass, but he did damage to the lobby with the chainsaw and then fled the police station,” added Quigley. The police chief also informed Boston 25 that Buckley had called the department earlier in the day to inquire about officers babysitting his children. He returned several hours later with a chainsaw after they rejected it.
“After hours-long negotiations, the male became more erratic to the point where SWAT supervisors sought permission to enter the home due to the increasingly clear and present danger to the children,” police said, according to Newsflash, as cited by New York Post. SWAT team members took his frightened children out and transported them to safety after he resisted arrest and prompted police to use a taser to control him. Buckley was arrested and transferred to a nearby hospital.
Although Buckley has a criminal history, this is his first attempt to enter a police station, according to the authorities. Buckley will be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday on charges that include assault with a dangerous weapon, three counts of property damage, two counts of endangering children, resisting arrest, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, and wanton destruction of a tree.
