Biden tweets 'continue to speak Breonna Taylor's name', Internet says 'your strong leadership' is needed

Biden's statement on Breonna Taylor's judgment didn't sit well with some who claimed he wasn't a true leader and that he was choosing instead to fan the flames

On September 23, a Kentucky grand jury indicted former Louisville police officer Brett Hankison on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree for the shooting and death of 26-year-old Black EMT Breonna Taylor on March 13.  he other two officers who discharged their weapons that night -- Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove -- have not been charged. Hankison was fired from his job after nationwide outrage over Taylor's death but he was also not charged in her death. A lot of people who had gathered waiting for the announcement in Louisville were angry at the outcome and the decision to indict only one officer. Civil rights leader Al Sharpton told MSNBC that the charges were “grossly insufficient”.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden also expressed his sentiments on Twitter. He said, “We must continue to speak Breonna Taylor’s name, support her family still in grieving and never give up on ensuring the full promise of America for every American.” He tweeted this saying: “I know for so many people today’s decision does not answer that call. A federal investigation remains ongoing, but we do not need to wait for the final judgment of that investigation to do more to deliver justice for Breonna. We know what is necessary. We need to start by addressing the use of excessive force, banning chokeholds, and overhauling no-knock warrants. I know people are frustrated and they have a right to peacefully protest, but violence is never acceptable. And we can express pain, grief, anger, and disappointment at the way things are, but remain focused on rebuilding trust in our communities and delivering change that can be.”

His tweet generated a lot of reactions. One user said, “Yes, we must work to elect Joe, but let today remind us that we MUST elect local officials who value black lives and will hold police accountable for killing them. WE DEMAND JUSTICE!!” Another said, “Thank you Joe,  for your calm voice in the midst of the country’s unrest.  We need your strong and moral leadership now more than ever.” One user disagreed and slammed him saying, “Joe, A true leader would use his bully pulpit to call for calm when cops are being shot.  You choose instead to fan the flames.  Despicable, Joe, just plain despicable.  Never Joe 2020.”

Another wrote, “Make time to vote regardless of the hurdles. Trump is not only unqualified & a total failure as a president but he is mentally unfit. Historically these men have caused irreparable damages to their country and loving people. To support this man is to support hate & dictatorship.” One stated, “There is something wrong when the law gives no recourse to a life taken by others whether on purpose or by accident. Shot in her own home and no one is held accountable doesn’t feel like justice.” One user doubted, “So essentially you are saying "thoughts and prayers.” Another user angrily said, "If you lose, this will be one of the biggest factors. As a lifelong democrat, I'm angry that you won't speak to the reality: police officers are getting shot (literally at this moment) in Louisville because they don't like the law/the findings from a *grand jury* of their peers."
