NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Hillary Clinton has found herself in hot water after comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler while claiming that his 2024 win would lead to 'almost unimaginable wreckage' for America.

The 76-year-old former Secretary of State made the remarks while making a guest appearance on ‘The View,’ where she accused the former president of wanting to imprison opponents and shut down a free press if he regained the White House.

During the appearance, co-host Sunny Hostin asked Clinton about potential outcomes if Trump were elected in 2024, as he seeks a second term in office after losing in 2020.

“The wreckage is almost unimaginable. You know, when I was Secretary of State, I used to talk about 'won and done'. What I meant by that was people would get legitimately elected and then they would try to do away with elections, and do away with opposition, and do away with a free press,” she replied.

Clinton then compared Trump's 'dictatorial, authoritarian impulses' that would bring an 'end of our country as we know it' to how the Nazi commander became a dictator.

“And you could see in countries where - well, Hitler was duly elected right - all of a sudden someone with those tendencies, those dictatorial, authoritarian tendencies, would be like OK we're going to shut this down, we're going to throw these people in jail,” the former first lady said.

“And they didn't usually telegraph that. Trump is telling us what he intends to do. Take him at his word. The man means to throw people in jail who disagree with him, shut down legitimate press outlets, do what he can to literally undermine the rule of law and our country's values,” she continued.

At one point, Clinton told the co-hosts that people need to "take him at his word” to which Hostin agreed, saying, "We need to listen to him."

"He means to throw people in jail who disagree with him, shut down legitimate press outlets, do what he can to literally undermine the rule of law and our country's values," Clinton then expressed.

In addition, Hostin declared that one of the most "pivotal moments" in this nation's history was the defeat of Clinton by Trump in 2016.

In an October CNN interview, Clinton demanded a "formal deprogramming" of many Trump supporters.

"I mean, we had very strong partisans in both parties in the past, and we had very bitter battles over all kinds of things… but there wasn't this little tail of extremism, waving, you know, wagging the dog of the Republican Party as it is today.”

"And sadly, so many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure. He's only in it for himself. He's now defending himself in civil actions and criminal actions. And when do they break with him?" she said, according to Fox News.

Internet reacts to Clinton’s comparison

After Clinton’s remarks surfaced on the internet, several users slammed her for making the comparison between Trump and Hitler.

“She’s absolutely vile!” one user said. “How can she say that with all the antisemitism going on in our country right now?!?! 😡”, the second user wrote.

“She needs to do an entire class on the Holocaust. She’s grotesquely insensitive to what is going on right now for Jews, selfish and an embarrassment. I truly wish I could take my 2016 vote for her back. She’s a disgrace!” the third user fumed.

“How is Hillary still relevant?” the fourth user asserted while the fifth stated, “Seems some will do anything to get attention whether it is good, bad, or diabolical?????”

“If desperation and panic were snowflakes, she'd be a Blizzard!” another user said. “Brainwashing from a proven criminal. Rich,” one more wrote.
