Professional boxer, 24, shot dead by a 12-year-old boy whom he had allowed to stay at his home
The 24-year-old boxer was shot to death by a boy, 12, who has been charged with capital murder but cannot be tried as an adult as he is under 14 as per Texas law.

A 12-year-old boy who shot a professional boxer to death in Texas has now been charged with capital murder. According to a statement from the Uvalde Police Department, John Duane VanMeter, 24, was shot at his own residence Wednesday night, People reports.
Authorities said dispatch received a call from VanMeter's girlfriend saying someone broke into his residence and shot him. Upon arrival, responding officers found a gunshot wound to the head of the 24-year-old as he lay lifeless in the living room.
