'Bob Hearts Abishola' Season 1 Episode 9: Bob sees competition as Abishola gives another suitor a second chance

A couple of episodes ago on CBS' 'Bob Hearts Abishola' from Chuck Lorre, a new character was introduced as a potential suitor for Abishola. Nicknamed Chewy, the Nigerian man is a pharmacist, but he ended up on Abishola's bad side as soon as he implied she would need his permission to continue working after marriage.

We thought that was the end of Chewy, but in this week's episode, he shows up again and tries to make amends. When Abishola gets back from work, Chewy is taking Uncle Tunde's blood pressure, warning him about eating too many biscuits and cookies. Chewy apologizes to Abishola — in his own way — and she seems to warm up to the idea of giving him a second chance.

This may be just as well since Bob probably has too much on his plate now with running the company and looking after his mother who is recovering from a stroke. Even though Abishola and Bob try to talk, they are interrupted many times.

But even though their relationship may be losing steam, it is not without its supporters. Bob's mother, Dottie, for one is a huge fan of Abishola. She even offers to take Abishola on a mother-daughter cruise once she's recovered. Uncle Tunde is Team Bob as well, and he gets booted for it.

Chewy has certainly turned up his charm this week, buying Abishola sunglasses but begging her not to use them to "cover your beautiful eyes". But still, something about Chewy rubs the wrong way. Chewy's attitude generally seems to imply that his job as a pharmaceutist is better than Abishola's job as a nurse. And certainly, it's a common occurrence in Asian and African communities for prospective grooms to put on a false image, only to turn around and be something else entirely as the marriage is done.

But will Abishola make the choice that's right for her? Sure, Bob does not have enough time for courting Abishola at the moment. However, this raises another question. We see Bob handle work as well as home life. Shouldn't we be seeing that for Abishola as well? After all, she is a nurse.

'Bob Hearts Abishola' airs on CBS on Monday nights. The next episode will air on December 9.
