'Black Widow' could give the 'Bourne' franchise a run for its money with its spy thriller feel and stellar cast

Much like Bourne, it looks like Black Widow will also be going to war against her creators, the only difference being that she has all her memories and she's got a whole team of fellow superspies (and one plus-size powerhouse) watching her back.

Anybody who thinks the Marvel Cinematic Universe is just a bunch of superhero flicks for little kids clearly hasn't paid enough attention to the films. Every genre of cinema finds representation in the MCU, with the upcoming movie 'Black Widow' adding a high-octane spy thriller to the line-up.

With the release of the first teaser for the movie, we now have a good idea what Cate Shortland has in store for us in the very first solo outing for Scarlett Johansson's Natasha Romanoff, the titular Black Widow. Move over Jason Bourne, there's a new spy coming to theaters to kick you off your throne, burn it down and dance in its ashes.

'Black Widow' will see Natasha taking a trip back to her roots, introducing us to her extended "family" of superspies. Just from the trailer, we're already pumped up for this movie and we can't wait to see David Harbour's Red Guardian and Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova take the stage.

Speaking of Jason Bourne, 'Black Widow' has a casting connection to the 'Bourne' series with Rachel Weisz, who played Dr. Marta Shearing in 2012's 'The Bourne Legacy', appearing in the film as Melina Vostokoff, an older and more experienced Black Widow created by the same organization that turned Natasha and Yelena into living weapons.

Much like Bourne, it looks like Black Widow will also be going to war against her creators, the only difference being that she has all her memories and she's got a whole team of fellow superspies (and one plus-size powerhouse) watching her back. Because let's face it, Black Widow's greatest strength isn't her training or her deadly assassin skills, it's her ability to forge relationships that stand the test of time and if you think that's just a cheesy line, go watch 'Avengers: Endgame' and get back to us.

'Black Widow' hits theaters on May 1, 2020.
