SAVANNAH, GEORGIA: Simon Quinton's mother has been put on suicide watch in prison, the dead toddler's grandmother has revealed. The FBI verified on Monday that the remains discovered in a Georgia landfill were of Quinton, a 20-month-old boy reported missing by his mother in October. His mother Leilani Simon was arrested last week and accused of his disappearance and death.

The FBI stated in a statement that their laboratory used DNA analysis to link Quinton to the human remains discovered after a roughly four-week search at the Waste Management Superior Landfill in Savannah. The hunt began a week after the toddler went missing on October 5. Investigators claimed to have had "evidence" pointing them to the spot.

The grandmother of toddler Quinton, Billie Howell, who warned the FBI that her daughter was a 'flight risk' before her arrest, now says that she hasn't seen or heard from Leilani since then, as reported by WTOC.

She added that Leilani has been put on suicide watch and that other jail inmates have been calling her to give her updates on her condition despite not being able to speak to her directly.

The landfill search was completed on Monday, and the case was turned over to the District Attorney's Office from the Chatham County Police Department. The command center at L Scott Stell Park has been in place for six weeks but is currently being dismantled. The FBI trailer is still present, but it will be removed soon.

Leilani, the baby's mother, was detained on November 21 after police discovered the remains. She was charged with murder with malice, hiding a person's death, false reporting, and making false statements. At the time, she was the lone suspect under investigation, as reported by Fox News.

The Georgia Southern University, forensic anthropologists who helped confirm potential human remains, experts in missing and exploited children, and all the officers, agents, and deputies who searched the landfill daily were all thanked by the FBI. The FBI also expressed gratitude to the management and staff at the landfill for opening their facilities to investigators for weeks.
