Billie Davis: Indiana woman who stabbed Asian student for 'being Chinese' charged with federal hate crime
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA: Billie Davis was charged with federal hate crime for a racially motivated attack against an Asian student. Davis, 56, had repeatedly stabbed an 18-year-old Indiana University student in the head for "being Chinese" on Wednesday, January 11.
Davis had been held on state counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery after the horrific racist incident that took place on a city bus in Bloomington. Court documents reveal that Davis allegedly admitted to targeting the unidentified teen because of her race, claiming that she "would be one less person to blow up our country," according to New York Post. The victim, who is of Chinese origin, survived despite suffering seven knife wounds to the top of her skull.

'She was seeking help managing her condition'
Kyle Dugger, the woman's lawyer, contended that his client suffers from a mental illness, according to New York Post. He announced his plan to pursue an insanity defense for her in a motion he filed in January. He stated, "Ms. Davis has a long, documented history of severe mental illness," according to New York Post.
Dugger added, "She was seeking help managing her condition up to and including the day of the alleged attack." On Friday, April 21, Dugger stated that he expects the federal indictment to result in the state charges being withdrawn and the transfer of Davis to federal custody, according to New York Post. Additionally, the lawyer claimed that Davis was never known to be racist.
