Joe Biden mocked for 'new day in America' tweet after Trump leaves White House: 'Happens every 24 hours moron'
Joe Biden announced on Twitter that it's "a new day in America" as he prepares to become the 46th President of the United States at an inauguration ceremony in Washington D.C. His tweet, however, sparked mixed reactions on social media. "It's a new day in America," Biden wrote just minutes after outgoing President Donald Trump flew out of Washington on probably his last ride aboard the Air Force One.
As Trump boarded the presidential aircraft for his final trip to Florida as commander-in-chief, Biden departed Blair House to head to church with a number of congressional leaders in a bid to project unity at the start of his tenure.
Trump decided not to attend his successor's inauguration, leaving the White House shortly after 8 am for Joint Base Andrews, where he attended a brief farewell ceremony before flying to his beachfront club in Palm Beach, Florida. The 45th POTUS has been a muted presence in his final days in office after big tech social platforms -- including Twitter and Facebook -- banned him indefinitely for allegedly "inciting an insurrection" at the Capitol on January 6. Nonetheless, in the hours before he left, Trump issued a flurry of pardons to a number of allies and white-collar criminals.
Trump addressed his supporters at Andrews, saying it had been an "incredible four years" before listing some of his notable policy achievements. He then offered his respects to those who had suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic and said it was his “greatest honor and privilege to have been your president.”
“I wish the new administration great luck and great success,” he said without naming his successor. “We will be back in some form," he added.
Social media, however, poked fun at the 46th President-elect over his "new day" tweet. "That happens every 24 hours moron," one quipped. "I speak for every American Citizen when I say that we won’t accept Biden as our President and that our 45TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES DONALD JOHN TRUMP DESERVES A SECOND TERM. If this doesn’t happen we are all moving to Mexico. RIGGED," another blasted. "Fake news sir I believe it is still yesterday as I read that online somewhere," a third joked. "A new day in America has finally arrived. We will be back at appeasing the Industrial Military Complex, new wars, higher taxes, higher gas prices. With wall street now becoming Biden's cabinet, higher everything. The sheep wanted this and they now have it," another complained.

Meanwhile, supporters of the new president showered praises on him. "Joe Biden is signing 17 executive orders today including repealing the Muslim ban, protecting DACA, ordering reunification of children, extending rent & student loan moratoriums, & abolishing the 1776 propaganda project. Truly, a new day in America," lawyer Qasem Rashid tweeted. "Today is a new day in America! I’m ready to watch @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris be officially sworn in as our nation’s next President and VP in just a few hours. My colleagues and I are ready to roll up our sleeves and get to work! #InaugurationDay," Rep. Marc Veasey added. "Congratulations to my friend, President @JoeBiden! This is your time," former President Barack Obama wrote.
