Whenever we tune in to watch ‘Better Call Saul’, we know something devastating is going to happen. The mid-season premiere took everyone by storm when Lalo Salamanca was killed by Gus Fring even when there were six episodes remaining in the ongoing season. On the other hand, they gave nothing to be happy about in last week’s episode and sadly gave closure to the story of Kim (Rhea Seehorn) and Saul. After the death of Lalo and Howard, Kim believed that she was not worthy enough to be a lawyer and quit law. In the end, she left Jimmy by saying that they are “toxic” to one another.

However, tonight’s episode was a lot different than what we have seen so far this season and took us back to a time when Saul had taken the alias of Gene Takovic and managed the Omaha Cinnabon store. The writers decided to take us on a trip to the future and show us what Saul did after ‘Breaking Bad’. Although he was working as the manager at the Cinnabon, from the inside, he’s still the con-man that he was a few years ago at Albuquerque.

‘Nippy’ was all about Gene slipping back to his old patterns for one last con and having a Happy Ending. He planned on robbing one of the department stores with the help of two guys and take out some really expensive things. Even though the robbery was too small, but it gave us a glimpse of how brilliant of an artist Saul is. He knows how to befriend someone and accomplish his motives. Even though it was riveting to see how writers are setting up the ‘BCS’ universe to end, a certain section of fans was not happy with the show deviating from the main storyline.

Social media was divided about tonight’s episode and had mixed reactions to ‘Nippy’. There were some who praised the episode for such an intense story while some just didn’t like what they were seeing on their screens. One of the fans wrote, “Phenomenal. So much greatness.” Another fan wrote, “Great episode tonight! I was excited to see more Slippin' Jimmy after Breaking Bad. Jimmy just can’t break the habit.” Another social media user tweeted, “Even in black and white, you can see a distinctively loud Saul Goodman ensemble. What a brilliant visual!!!!”

Meanwhile, one of the fans praised the writers for the amazing Heist sequence and wrote, “This is the longest and most intense three minutes of television. Exceptional work #BetterCallSaul team.” Another user wrote, “The people hating on this episode don’t realize that we need closure to the gene timeline. We got closure for breaking bad with the end of the show obviously so those scenes are just going to fill in gaps. clearly, this is important to gene idfk.”

“This episode was really a perfect piece of character-focused storytelling. Gene’s reluctance to go back to his old ways, but how easily he slips back into it. Amazing tension and set-up with a somber closing shot to boot. Absolutely incredible,” wrote another user.

On the other hand, others felt what was the point of the whole episode? “#BetterCallSaul was a really weird episode. What was the point? What a disappointment. With such few episodes left, they choose this filler throw-away episode wtf!” said another social media user. “I hate this episode so far. It just ended. Wish I had that hour back,” wrote another one. “Didn't love tonight's episode of #BetterCallSaul which usually means the next one will be epic!” said another one.

If you have been a fan of ‘Breaking Bad’, you’ll realize how devastating the last three episodes were. It seems ‘Nippy’ was the calm before the storm. Let’s wait and watch.

‘Better Call Saul’ Season 6 returns to AMC with a new episode every week at 9 pm EST.
