Spoilers for 'Bering Sea Gold' Season 9 Episode 2

It has been a good start for the two Captains, Ken Kerr of the Myrtle Irene and Emily Riedel of The Eroica. Both crews had an early start to the season and the move paid dividends as they hit paydirt pretty early on. The episode gives a glimpse of the issues plaguing Kerr and Kris Kelly of the reaper early on the episode. But by the end, every crew member is ready for the competition.

Shawn Pomrenke finally gets a move on after grueling hours on his inland mining site. Required to raise $400,000 to get his dredge back, he and his crew go hard at mining inland and raise enough to get the Christine Rose back into action. The confidence is commendable as Shawn is on a warpath and he's keen to make up for last time.  Experience and the right attitude were always his best traits and the skipper banks on these two factors to help him reclaim what was rightfully his.

Kris Kelly gets a move on as well as his brother Andy and father, Brad take the Reaper out and do some mining. However, there is a bit of a snag with Andy unable to get the mask on properly. With that issue resolved, Kris has finally opened his account, the competition just got stiffer for Kerr as he runs into a spud issue. Myrtle Irene's spud is firmly attached to the ocean floor and that means being unable to take off to a different location. Despite the crew's efforts, the spud refuses to budge.

It eventually takes a crane to lend an assist and Kerr makes a move. However, he makes chump change with 24 Oz of gold. The episode also sees Wild Ranger's Vernon Adkison get a pleasant surprise after his daughter Emily decides to put the boat in the water. Buoyed by a positive attitude, Vernon and Emily too make a start and find some cobbles with gold. This essentially means every team is underway and Shawn is the only skipper yet to strike gold.

While most fans would feel the episode was predictable, Shawn fans have every reason to rejoice after their Twitter outburst last week. It has been two breezy episodes and with all the captains ready for the race, we can safely say 'Bering Sea Gold' Season 9 is well and truly underway.

'Bering Sea Gold' Season 9 airs 8 pm ET on The Discovery Channel.
