Ben Shapiro buys wooden board to promote Home Depot in viral video, Internet says 'tiny wood but his'
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro was trolled on social media after purchasing a single piece of wood from Home Depot. It was his way of showing support to the company which is currently facing calls of boycott from left-wing activists over its apolitical stance toward Georgia’s new voting law.
"As you can see, I just went shopping at Home Depot,” Shapiro says in the video which has currently gone viral on the internet. “You should do the same. This wood, this board, this magnificent piece of poplar is now mine.” In the video, Shapiro was seen standing in front of a Home Depot outlet, holding a plank of wood in a plastic bag in one hand and its receipt in another.

A few days prior, Shapiro had criticized the boycott calls in a Twitter rant, saying he would “only shop at Home Depot from now on” in response.

While, organizations like Coca-Cola and Major League Baseball (MLB) have stood firmly against Georgia’s new voting legislation, which Republicans argue helps secure elections and Democrats equate to voter suppression, Home Depot, a company that started in Atlanta, Georgia, has taken an apolitical stance on the law.
The company has said that it will “continue to underscore our statement that all elections should be accessible, fair and secure and support broad voter participation, and to continue to work to ensure our associates in Georgia and across the country have the information and resources to vote.”
Shapiro’s video and purchase were meant as a symbolic stance against calls to boycott the chain store for refusing to condemn the law, outright. Although Shapiro wanted to demonstrate his support for the retail giant through his video, most of the people on Twitter couldn’t help but poke fun at the absurdity of his purchase, especially after he opted to put the single piece of wood inside a plastic bag.
“In my frequent trips to Home Depot to purchase lumber I frequently put this ... small single board in a dainty bag to carry with me,” journalist Josh Marshall said. Former professional basketball player and social media influencer Rex Chapman wrote: "And - who puts a piece of wood in a plastic bag?" One more added, "Of course, exactly me too. The thing is, I hate that it takes me 30 minutes cutting up those bags so I can piece them together with tape when buying a 4' X 8' piece of plywood."
"Yes I WOULD like a bag for my plank of wood!", another commented. One person remarked, "I always get my lumber in a plastic bag." A person reacted with, "The bag for the single piece of wood is just embarrassing." A commenter tweeted, "The bag is everything." One more added, "Every carpenter in the world seeing his purchase & the bag."

And of course, there were "wood" jokes aplenty. "He's got wood. It's a tiny wood. But it's his," one of them said, while another wrote, "According to his wife, it's the first wood he's had in a long time." One more added, "One piece of wood? What can you do with one piece of wood? Oh, wait. Nevermind." The next commented, "When you got wood! Always use protection!" A person noted, "Ben Makes A Very Important And Manly Point." Another quipped, "I can see why there’s a dryness problem at home with this one..."
