Spoilers for 'Barry' Season 4 Episode 1 - 'Yikes'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: HBO’s dark-comedy ‘Barry’ has been one of the most intriguing shows of this generation and continues to get better with each passing season. For three seasons, the show has enthralled fans with extraordinary moments and kept them on the edge of their seats. Season 3 of the series ended on a disastrous note for our lead character and he realized that he was betrayed by his former mentor and arrested for the murder of Janice Moss. He was taken into custody by the police and was taken to prison. The premiere of Season 4 is all about Barry (Bill Hader) trying to adjust to the prison lifestyle. But we know Barry knows how to get out of these ridiculously dangerous situations and will do anything to get out of prison. That’s what he does during the premiere and fans are surely going to love it.
The Season 4 premiere of ‘Barry’ opens with the titular character being in the prison for the murder of Janice Moss. As soon as the news of his crime surfaces in the news, Barry’s former acting teacher, Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), takes a sigh of relief and feels that Barry got what he deserved. However, things get interesting when Barry finds out that his former mentor Monroe Fuches is in the same prison. Fuches cannot be trusted and he gives a glimpse of that when he talks to the FBI agents. He tells them that he knows everything about Barry’s crimes and can help them, but he has conditions. Barry gets in trouble with a police officer
On the other hand, Barry is having problems in the prison and is suddenly getting flashbacks of his childhood. A few moments later, Barry and Fuches finally run into each other and Barry apologizes for doing things that led to his arrest.
In the concluding moments of the show, Barry loses his mind while peeing in the prison bathroom. He slaps himself and punches the wall repeatedly till his left-hand starts bleeding. The officer tries to console him, but things get pretty weird for Barry when he tells the officer that he is a “cop killer” and he would kill his entire family if he would see him outside. As a result, Officer Birdwell beats the “s**t” out of Barry and makes him question his own intelligence.
The episode ends with Fuches meeting Barry in the prison toilet. Barry’s face is covered in blood which makes us realize that the officer didn’t leave any stone unturned to make him pay for what he did and said. But it seems, we are going to see a friendship between Fuches and Barry here because Fuches is the only person that he knows in the prison and Barry would need allies to protect himself.
A scintillating episode with exceptional writing and superlative performances. It will be interesting to see what will Barry do to get out of prison because he has already started to lose his mind and if he stays in the prison for more days, he is undoubtedly going to wreak havoc.
