'Merry Christmas Mr. President' trends after Barack Obama shares photo of family's Christmas tree
Barack Obama may have left office more than three years ago but that does not mean that he has left people's minds as the president they prefer after the former president and First Lady shared their Christmas wishes.
A few hours after former First Lady Michelle Obama shared a photo of the family's Christmas card, Obama tweeted out his Christmas and Hanukkah wishes. In her post, Michelle wished her followers a Merry Christmas while acknowledging their hopes and goals, writing, "This type of positive and thoughtful engagement from my “Becoming family” is a reminder that there are millions of us out there constantly striving to become more mindful, compassionate, and caring people."
Obama then tweeted a picture of the family's Christmas tree, writing, "From the Obama family to yours, Merry Christmas!" Earlier this month, he had tweeted, "On behalf of my family, Chag Sameach and Happy Hanukkah! As Jews around the world celebrate, let the menorah’s light remind us all of the miracles in our own lives."
Following the Obamas' social media shares, many users started tweeting their wishes to the former president and first lady. One user tweeted, "Merry Christmas Mr. President! We really miss you!" Another wrote, "Merry Christmas Mr. President and First Lady! God will bless u richly for all have done and what u r going to do in 2020."
Another user wrote, "Merry Christmas Mr. President. I miss not having to wake up every morning wondering if we’ve extorted another nation or abandoned allies or inadvertently started a war. I miss having a competent graceful President. I miss... you."
People are also noticing that the trending phrase refers to former President Obama and not current President Donald Trump. One user wrote, "I'm absolutely living for the fact that "Merry Christmas Mr. President" is trending for @BarackObama and NOT @realDonaldTrump. It's just beautiful."
