Bank of America has earned the ire of Donald Trump supporters and several of its customers after Fox News' Tucker Carlson reported that the bank had provided the information of hundreds of accounts to law enforcement authorities to help with January 6 Capitol riot investigation.

Carlson said during his segment, “Bank of America is, without the knowledge or the consent of its customers, sharing private information with federal law enforcement agencies. Bank of America effectively is acting as an intelligence agency, but they're not telling you about it.”

The bank reportedly disclosed information of 211 accounts, after searching for transactions made by people in Washington on the day of the riot, or bought lodging, weapons, or airline tickets in the days around the attack on the Capitol.

However, Bank of America has refused to comment on its communication with law enforcement. When contacted by Daily Mail, the bank reportedly said, “We don’t comment on our communications with law enforcement. All banks have responsibilities under federal law to cooperate with law enforcement inquiries in full compliance with the law.”

According to a tweet shared by the Daily Caller, the federal authorities reportedly interrogated a customer "who was cleared of wrongdoing."

Although banks regularly cooperate with law enforcement authorities under laws like the 1970 Bank Secrecy Act, Bank of America's decision to hand out the information of its customers without their consent to help the FBI with its investigation is being met with criticism.

Bernard Kerik, a former police officer and 40th Commissioner of the New York Police Department Tweeted, "Move over Russia, China, and Venezuela… Tucker Carlson: #BankofAmerica ⁦@BankofAmerica handed over customer data to feds following Capitol riot"

More and more customers of Bank of America took to Twitter to express their disappointment in the establishment for its actions, with many determined to "close" their accounts in the bank.

One furious social media user wrote, "@BankofAmerica is soulless and Anti-American. Show the warrant that was served to cause you to spy on Customers. Calls for Bank of America boycott grow after data given to FBI." Another tweeted, "Bank of America was so worried about the events that transpired last month that they were willing to violate the 4th amendment. Where were they all summer during those riots and protests, if they were so concerned about what happen last month?" Adding to the above tweets one wrote, "Watch to see if they turn against Trump supporters????? Might start closing accounts....never liked Bank of America." Another angry user said, "We all need to all cancel our Bank of America credit cards and close our Bank of America checking/savings/money market accounts. Stop working with thugs. I just did and it felt great."
