Aylee Gordon: North Carolina girl, 3, dies after shooting herself in the head on Christmas
A three-year-old North Carolina girl died after she accidentally shot herself in the head on Christmas. Aylee Gordon was admitted to Mission Hospital in Asheville after being critically injured and she died on Tuesday, December 28, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said.
In an email, sheriff's spokesman Johnny Duncan said that the retired Henderson County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Gordon was the father of the little one. The tragic incident in the rural community of Edneyville reportedly took place during noon on December 25 and it was reported around 2:30 pm, the sheriff’s office noted.

During the 911 call, Gordon reportedly told the dispatcher that he was inside his car with his child and wife in the backseat. He also said that he was going to a fire station because there were issues getting a signal on his phone. In the same call, the retired officer claimed that Aylee found the firearm inside a truck left by someone, who visited them for the holiday. “She picked up a pistol and shot herself in the head,” Gordon added.
A GoFundMe link was launched after the horrible accident that stated, “On Christmas Day precious 3-year-old Aylee was the victim of a horrible accident in which she suffered a gunshot wound to the head. She was airlifted to the nearby trauma center where she underwent emergency surgery. The Chief Neurosurgeon was on staff that evening and performed the surgery.”
It added, “This fundraiser is for Aylee's medical expenses, as her surgery and intensive care will be costly, and to provide financial support for her family, as her parents stay at her bedside and also care for their 6-year-old son. Aylee's parents have been strong leaders in our community, in law enforcement, and in foster care. They have supported many families and children in their community. During this critical time for their beautiful little girl and family, let's support them with our love, prayers, and financial support. They are eternally grateful for every prayer and donation.” The fundraiser raised more than $18K while its goal was $5K.
Unfortunately, Aylee could not be saved. Her devastated family updated on the fundraiser, “Our beautiful little angel gained her wings last night. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the tremendous support to our family and appreciate continuous prayers.” Meanwhile, the sheriff's office stated that charges might be brought in the case and the local district attorney's office or the North Carolina Bureau of Investigation will decide over it.
Several people sent their love, support and condolences to the grieving Gordon family. A person commented below GoFundMe, “We're so sorry to hear of this absolute tragedy. Praying your family finds a way to continue on. The community is with you.” The second one said, “I'm so saddened to hear of this tragic accident. I will keep your family in my prayers. We lost our 20-month-old daughter Brooklyn in October after an accident as well. I hope our beautiful daughters are playing together in heaven today.”
“My heart breaks for this little girl and her parents. Accidents happen and it's important to remember that only God himself is perfect, her parents are only human just as you and I are so please stop and think before jumping to conclusions. We only have one Judge and Jury and the Master upstairs. Please continue to lift this child up in every prayer that is prayed because as a Mother I feel certain they need a miracle,” a message read.
