It's been months since the coronavirus outbreak and many nations across the globe continue to suffer from its impact. Among the 188 countries that have been swept by Covid-19, US is one of the hardest-hit nations with at least 150,000 deaths. While the cry for health care and treatment is growing louder by the day, President Donald Trump is of a rather different opinion. He appeared on the recent episode of 'Axios on HBO' hosted by national political correspondent Jonathan Swan, during which he spoke at length about coping with coronavirus and reopening the economy, among other topics.

The interview begins with the anchor asking the president about his philosophical approach towards positive thinking and his opinion about using the same as a tool to fight one of the worst pandemics the world has experienced. In response, Trump talks about the importance of perceiving things positively and what an “incredible job" his administration has done in terms of arranging "ventilators" and "stopping very infected people from China coming in" and also "putting a ban on China".

Trump also claims that it was his ban on different countries that saved millions of lives. The president says he went ahead despite the disapproval of experts who thought this move was an extreme one. Asked about medical experts criticizing POTUS’s "wishful thinking and salesmanship" that’s not considered suitable, especially during a pandemic that has killed thousands of people, Trump says, "Nobody knew this was coming. This has never happened before."

He further adds, "If you watch the fake news on television, they don’t even talk about it. There are 188 countries right now that are suffering proportionately far greater than we are. Okay?" He names Spain and Moscow as examples stating "the world is going through tremendous problems". In the later segment of the interview when asked about the surging deaths in the US alone, Trump is heard saying, "It’s true and it is what it is."

This statement by Trump has irked many internet users as they’ve slammed the president for being “deeply ignorant” and “even worse than you suspect". Many said that they were taken aback on hearing Trump’s response to the total deaths from Covid-19. One tweeted, "During the @axios interview, when @jonathanvswan presses trump on our Covid death rate, trump literally says, 'The United States is lowest in numerous catagories, we’re lower than, (pulls out chart), the world.' I s**t you not America, I s**t you not."

Another user tweeted, "In his @Axios interview, Trump’s response to the # of dead Americans was 'it is what it is'. He said the exact same thing to Chris Wallace Over 158,000 Americans are dead We could lose up to A QUARTER MILLION in the next few months 'It is what it is. F*****g Psychopath."

And one Internet user wrote, "If this incredible @Axios interview shows one thing, it's that the president is completely out of gas. The job has chewed him up, spit him out, and there's nothing left in the tank."
