For fans who have loved the Marvel film ‘Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings,’ the exciting news is that Marvel Studios has officially confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton who’s known for ‘Shang-Chi,’ is onboard to direct the highly talked about ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.’

Kevin Feige ended fans' speculations by dropping the curtains and revealing ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ during the San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) 2022 panel on Saturday, July 23. This film is part one of the two-part multiverse saga which is somewhat similar to how 2018’s 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 2019’s 'Avengers: Endgame' concluded the Infinity Saga.

Unlike these iconic films that were filmed back to back by MCU stalwarts Anthony and Joe Russo, Cretton would only be helming ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ which is slated to drop in theatres by May 2, 2025. The follow-up film titled 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' which is set to release globally just six months later on November 7, 2025 has no particular director officially announced.

Currently, there’ve been no screenwriter or casting announcements for 'The Kang Dynasty' either, but the title has made it clear that Jonathan Majors’ ‘Kang the Conqueror’ who will debut in MCU in 2023's 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' would be seen essaying a pivotal role in the film.

'The Hollywood Reporter' dropped the official announcement of Marvel tapping Cretton to helm ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ on their Twitter handle:

As soon as this news dropped on Twitter, fans were thrilled to see it. Many of them claimed that ‘Shang-Chi’ was one of their favorites and they all would definitely be seated for this one in the theatres. The majority of them resonated that with Cretton helming the film, they can expect excellent cinematography and action sequences.

“Very solid choice. I’m intrigued to see what happens with this. I not only love Shang Chi but I love Just Mercy too. Both solid films,” shared a fan. “CINEMA IS BACK BABYYYYYYYYYY,” a fan noted.

“Good for him. SHANG-CHI wasn't one of my favorite Marvel films, and Tony Leung really was the very best thing about it, but I'm glad that Destin has been given this opportunity,” another one added.

“Pour one out for my man Destin Daniel Cretton. started at Short Term 12 and now he's doin this. I know people who know him and I've heard nothing but lovely things. let's hope he's able to bring some Shang-Chi-levels of tactile fight direction to Avengers for once,” noted a fan.

“Shang-Chi was a solid entry in the MCU. I think this director has a good grasp on balancing spectacle + storytelling. Also a big show of faith from Feige!,” shared a fan.

“That tracks. He’s worked repeatedly with Larson, who is likely to be one of the stars of the era of the MCU, and he directed a well-reviewed solo feature film for the company that is very firmly in “the House Style,” a fan said.

“Didn’t expect Destin Daniel Cretton whatsoever but he’s a damn good choice for Kang Dynasty. I just know the fight scenes are gonna be awesome,” said a fan.
