LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: James Cameron's second chapter in the epic 'Avatar' saga, titled 'Avatar: The Way of Water', continues its golden run and raked in big numbers at the box office to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2022. According to the latest figures, the sequel has already crossed the $850 million mark at the global box office in just 10 days despite facing a lot of challenges due to the harsh weather conditions in many of the key domestic areas.

It doesn't come as a shock that 'The Way of Water' has become one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022 and is performing so well at the box office because there was a lot of anticipation for the sequel among the viewers. The second movie took 13 long years to hit the theatres and although it's still unclear if the movie will be able to replicate the level of success as the first movie, 'The Way of Water' has managed to create some amazing records at the box office.

As per the latest figures by Box Office Mojo, the second movie in the franchise has already earned more than $881 million globally in just under 10 days, making it one of the fastest-grossing movies to make $850 million worldwide. The film went on to earn over $168.6 million in international markets over the Christmas weekend to take its global tally to a staggering $601.7 million. The biggest contributors to the movie's massive success have been China, South Korea, France, India, Germany, the UK, Australia, and Italy. With these figures, the movie has left 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever' behind by a large margin to become the fifth-highest-grossing movie of 2022.

The latest figures also reveal that China continues to be one of the biggest markets for 'Avatar 2' despite the rising cases of Covid-19 and earned over $100.5 million, followed by South Korea with $53 million. Meanwhile, France ($52.3 million), India ($37 million), and Germany ($35.7 million) are the other top 3 markets where the movie rakes in big numbers. On the other hand, there's no competition for 'The Way of Water' at the North American box office, and saw a great surge in ticket sales across the nation. The movie earned $19.5 million on December 23 and grossed another $15 million on Saturday, December 24. Meanwhile, the movie earned over $47.5 million on the day of Christmas and on Monday, December 26th.

'Avatar: The Way of Water’ is set a decade after the events of the first film and tells the story of the Sully family and the troubles that follow them. The family will do anything to keep each other safe and they fight the battle to keep the entire tribe safe from the wrath of humans. The movie sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana returning as Jake Sully and Neytiri. Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang also return as Kiri and Colonel Miles Quaritch. On the other hand, actors such as Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, and Britain Dalton join the movie as the new cast members.

The movie currently holds a 78% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience rating on the aforementioned website

'Avatar: The Way of Water' is currently in theatres.
