IRVINE, CALIFORNIA: The attorney representing dermatologist Yue "Emily" Yu, who was caught spiking her husband’s lemonade with drain cleaning fluid Drano, claimed that this was just a ruse by which her husband Jack Chen was trying to get 'custody of the children.'

Speaking to CBS Los Angeles, Attorney David Wohl said, "The idea that my client, who is a 45-year-old well-respected dermatologist in Orange County, would destroy her life, destroy her children’s lives and try to kill her husband is just completely absurd and untrue, and for that matter defamatory."

Yu was arrested on August 4 after her husband accused her of spiking his drink with the fluid. She was released on bail on Friday, August 12, and has not been charged.

Wohl claims that Chen, a radiologist, allegedly filmed his wife pouring the fluid into his lemonade on three different occasions in their home, but he insisted that his client was actually using the cleaning solution to unclog a drain.

He said, "Anytime she poured Drano into a cup it was completely empty. It was for facilitating use in the sink or any other part of the house that was clogged as far as the drainage goes."

Wohl alleged that Chen made up the poisoning story since he was "desperate" to divorce Yu and gain custody of the couple’s two children. He said, "We believe completely that these claims he made are all part and parcel of that effort."

Meanwhile, Chen said in a court declaration that his wife reportedly laced his beverage with the poisonous fluid a minimum of three times in July. As per his statement, he got skeptical after becoming critically unwell, noticing a chemical taste in his lemonade. He then decided to install a nanny cam in their kitchen. Furthermore, he has filed paperwork with a court seeking a restraining order against his wife of 10 years. He also claimed mistreatment by Yu, which includes physical and verbal abuse of their children, aged seven and eight.

In a court document obtained by The New York Post, Jack said, "When Emily gets frustrated and yells at the children, she’ll commonly use a Chinese phrase that translates to ‘go die!’ She also says to the children, ‘your head has a problem, ‘your head is sick, ‘go f**k yourself,’ ‘f***ing idiot,’ ‘stupid a****le,’ and ‘get the f**k out of my way.’”

Chen also alleged that Yu would stop the kids from going to bed before she wanted them to.
