As Lindsay Clancy recovers in hospital, Internet more divided than ever on 'killer' mom
DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: Lindsay Clancy, a 32-year-old mother, allegedly strangled her three young children before severely injuring herself in a suicide attempt. She allegedly killed her 5-year-old daughter, Cora, 3-year-old son Dawson, and 8-month-old baby, Callan. As she recovers in the hospital, the Internet is divided over the symptoms of Postpartum psychosis and "killer" mom.
Clancy is still in the hospital and not in a position to get discharged. She has been in the hospital since January 24. The mother who strangulated her own children slit her throat before plunging 20 feet from the second floor in an attempt to kill herself.

Does Lindsay Clancy have Postpartum psychosis?
Though it is not officially confirmed whether she has postpartum psychosis, experts claim that she might be suffering from it. "Women who have no history of such thoughts may experience alarmingly intrusive ones of self-harming or harming their child," said Abbie Goldberg, a professor of psychology at Clark University as per USA Today. "Postpartum psychosis is always considered an emergency needing immediate care and attention, whereas postpartum depression, OCD and anxiety may be able to be treated in an outpatient setting," said Jessica MacNair, a licensed professional counselor specializing in postpartum and perinatal mood disorders.
Forensic psychiatrist Dr Ian Lamoureux said, "We do not see psychiatric medication, even when improperly prescribed and prescribed in excessive volume, to cause psychotic symptoms or homicidal thoughts. What it can do is cause a delirium, a medical state where you start to see psychotic symptoms occur." She also added, "It may be the case that she had a pretty significant underlying condition, and what was seen was more a result of the condition itself with medications … being increased to try to catch up to the symptoms," as per People. Lamoureux claimed that Clancy's potential postpartum psychosis diagnosis is "not a moral failure. It's not an issue of character. It's an issue of mental illness."
'There are differing symptoms and opinions on ppd'
The Internet is now debating over postpartum psychosis symptoms and whether Clancy actually had it. A user said, "Please don’t let this news of Lindsay Clancy lying about postpartum psychosis discredit women who actually struggle with the disorder. That will only make this tragedy happen again." "She didn’t lie. One psychiatrist claimed she didn’t exhibit symptoms of postpartum depression. I’m sure there are differing symptoms and opinions on ppd," added another. A user claimed, "She was on the phone with him while it happened That is sick. Our support is still with the mommas with PPD and PPP, but what Lindsay did was evil."

Another noted, "I don’t really know where I stand with the Lindsay Clancy case but I do know that there’s a lot of people with postpartum related issues that will read what you say regardless of if she is horrible or not." A user claimed, "I think the fact that her husband, who is obviously devastated by the loss of his children, was so quick to defend her and say that this wasn’t who she is, says a lot. He has to be completely heartbroken, but he still isn’t angry with her because he knows it wasn’t really her." "My issue is she was never diagnosed with anything but an anxiety disorder. And people want to say well she was seeking help etc. yes…so one would think if it was THAT bad she’d have been diagnosed with literally anything?" read a tweet. Another noted, "This is the only stance I can get behind right now. I wasn’t there. I also have never experience psychosis of any kind so I would never claim to know if she experienced it or not. All I know right now is what happened is absolutely terrible. I hope her husband is getting help."
