DUXBURY, MASSACHUSETTS: A mother accused of killing her three children is still not in a position to get discharged from the hospital. Lindsay Clancy has been in the hospital since the January 24 incident when she allegedly killed her daughter Cora, 5, and son Dawson, 3. She also attacked her youngest child, 8-month-old Callan, who died on January 27.

After allegedly strangulating the children, the 32-year-old woman apparently slit her throat before plunging 20 feet from her second floor. Though the little ones could not be saved, Lindsay survived and it has been suggested that she suffers from postpartum psychosis, The Sun reported.

How is postpartum psychosis different from postpartum depression? Lindsay Clancy case shines light on rare disorder

Won’t be able to function waist down again

The mother is now facing several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of strangulation and suffocation, and three counts of assault with a deadly weapon. But she could not go to court for her preliminary hearing in February because of her medical condition, which reportedly includes severe spinal fractures and fractures on her ribs and cervical spine.

CT Insider citing an email from Lindsay's trauma surgeon, which was presented in the court, reported that the woman’s chances of recovering from the fractures are significantly less, “which would make her paraplegic”. She would also require to wear “a collar around her neck”.

In early February, it was reported that Lindsay “is nearing readiness to leave the hospital, but will have continued, extensive rehabilitation needs, specifically with respect to (the) spinal cord injury.”  However, now almost after a month, according to Lindsay’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington, she is not close to getting discharged soon. She is next expected in court on May 2.

‘It’s medicate, medicate, medicate’

This update comes after Reddington expressed his frustration over society’s response to postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. He told the court in February, “Our society fails miserably in treating women with postpartum depression, or even postpartum psychosis. It’s medicate, medicate, medicate. Throw the pills at you, and then see how it works. If it doesn’t work, increase the dose or decrease the dose, then end up trying another combination of medications.”

It has been reported that Lindsay was on 12 medicines when the unfortunate incident happened. Nine of those medicines were zolpidem (Ambien), clonazepam, (Klonopin), diazepam (Valium), fluoxetine (Prozac), lamotrigine, (Lamictil), lorazepam, (Ativan), mirtazapine, (Remeron), quetiapine fumarate, (Seroquel) and trazodone. “This was turning her into a zombie... the medications that were prescribed were over the top, absolutely over the top,” Reddington added.

‘I took as much pride in being her husband as I did in being a father’

Lindsay’s husband Patrick had also shown his support to his wife and reportedly said after the incident, “She’s recently been portrayed largely by people who have never met her and never knew who the real Lindsay was. Our marriage was wonderful and diametrically grew stronger as her condition rapidly worsened.”

“I took as much pride in being her husband as I did in being a father and felt persistently lucky to have her in my life. She loved being a nurse, but nothing matched her intense love for our kids and dedication to being a mother. It was all she ever wanted. Her passion taught me how to be a better father. I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring toward everyone,” he added.
