'Arrow' Season 8 premiere: Oliver’s best friend Diggle convincing him to accept help is reassuring ahead of ‘Crisis on Infinite Earths’

Seeing Oliver reminded of how much he needs Diggle in his life was quite touching, especially because the episode managed to recreate Oliver's first meeting with his one-time bodyguard in a fitting homage

The end is nigh 'Arrow' fans, and Oliver Queen/Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) seems to be prepared to go gently into the good night. Ever since he made a deal with the mysterious cosmic entity known as the Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) during the 'Elseworlds' crossover, Oliver has had a Damocles sword hanging above his head and he is adamant he will not allow any of his friends to place their lives in danger, even if it means Oliver himself has to die.

In the season 8 premiere, however, Oliver's determination to protect his friends is challenged when John Diggle (David Ramsey) follows him to Earth-2, with a little help from Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes). Though Oliver refuses to allow Diggle to help him, John manages to prove he will not stand by and watch his best friend die.

It takes quite some time and more than a little effort but Diggle finally manages to convince Oliver to let him help. Seeing Oliver reminded of how much he needs Diggle in his life was quite touching, especially because the episode managed to recreate Oliver's first meeting with his one-time bodyguard in a fitting homage.

With 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' fast approaching, it's nice to know Oliver won't be alone and that he will have his best friend watching his back just as he has all these years. This time around, however, the stakes are higher than ever, especially since the Monitor has already predicted Oliver will die in the coming 'Crisis'.

The cast for ‘Arrow’ Season 8 includes Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Rick Gonzalez as Rene Ramirez/Wild Dog, Juliana Harkavy as Dinah Drake, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, Joseph David-Jones as Connor Hawke, Katherine McNamara as Mia Smoak, Ben Lewis as William Clayton and Charlie Barnett as John Diggle Jr., as well as Rila Fukushima, Josh Segarra, Colin Donnell, John Barrowman and Susanna Thompson who are reprising their roles as Tatsu Yamashiro/Katana, Adrian Chase, Tommy Merlyn, Malcolm Merlyn and Moira Queen respectively.

'Arrow' Season 8's second episode 'Welcome to Hong Kong' will air on The CW October 22.
