HARLEM, NEW YORK CITY: A man accused of killing a Burger King employee during a heist has compared himself to Jesus and Nelson Mandela. After an intense citywide manhunt following the murder of Kristal Bayron-Nieves, 19, at the East Harlem Burger King where he previously worked, Winston Glynn was tracked down in Brooklyn. Before killing Nieves in January, he is said to have stolen $100 from the fast food restaurant.

As cops escorted Glynn to a parked police car, he yelled through a blue mask that hid his face, "Why am I guilty?"  He also said, "You know they charge n*****s every day? Where's our reparations for four hundred years of f***ing slavery." He repeatedly yelled "liar" at the judge in his trial. During his interrogation at Rikers Island, more of these rambling, incomprehensible statements were made. As per New York Post, he said, "What happened to Nelson Mandela, what happened to Jesus? [They were] innocent. I want to be a leader and all that. A lot of people are jealous, you know."

Glynn denied any involvement in the crime and when questioned, he asked why he would use a credit card and why a witness took so long to testify. He reportedly said, "Somebody probably made a call to a tip line, and I used to work there, that's all. There's only one way this can go. They let me go and I sue the city for holding me so long."

Glynn continued, fuming about how "the system" treated "the lower class, like we are nobody." He said that the families of the rich and powerful actually profited from the chaos and crime that wrought havoc in the city. He said, "Your grandma is a judge; your grandfather is one of the morgue, so if you kill somebody, he makes money with the body; the daughter is a doctor so if that person [doesn’t] die, they treat them. These people don't want crime to stop, as long as it's not affecting them."

MEAWW has reported earlier that Glynn has an extensive criminal record, including at least four prior arrests. The most recent one was in November 2021, when he was charged with menacing with a weapon.

Bayron-Nieves' mother, Kristie reportedly said that her daughter was "a happy girl" and that the pair “spent all of [their] time together.” Kristie stated that she did not accept Glynn's claims of innocence. "He killed her. There is so much evidence against him. Remembering that day and seeing his face is difficult for us, her family. The problem is the entire community and all of the violence. I want justice for my daughter," she reportedly said.
