'Armed' suspect who took 5 people, including a child, hostage in Virginia bank arrested after stand-off with police
ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA: A 20-year-old armed suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, April 11, after he took five hostages in an Arlington bank. According to videos posted on social media, the suspect was arrested from the Virginia bank and was handcuffed by SWAT officers.
Before the arrest, the Arlington police department tweeted informing that the scene occurred at The Wells Fargo Bank on Washington Boulevard just after 3 pm where the suspect implied he had a weapon and demanded money, and barricaded himself in the bank.

Four adults and 1 child were taken hostage
The suspect had taken four adults and one child hostage. Police said that all the hostages have been safely exited. No injuries were reported in the incident, the police said. "Preliminary information indicates the suspect entered the bank, implied he had a weapon and demanded money. The suspect remained barricaded inside the bank with patrons/employees while police remained on the scene working to resolve," police tweeted earlier.

Later, police shared the news of his arrest. "UPDATE: The suspect has been taken into police custody. The 5 patrons/employees (4 adults and 1 child) have safely exited the bank. No injuries were reported. The investigation is ongoing."

No weapon has been found at the scene
Officers at the scene commanded the suspect to come out which he eventually did. He, as per reports, was taken into custody without incident. No weapon as per one report in WTPO has been found but the bank was still being searched. The road has been reopened, police said.

Hostage situation comes a day after Kentucky massacre
The hostage and robbery come a day after Connor Sturgeon killed five people at Old National Bank in Kentucky where he was employed but was about to be fired. In the massacre, eight others were injured and eventually, Sturgeon was killed in a confrontation with police who arrived within minutes at the scene. The five victims were identified as Joshua Barrick, 40, Juliana Farmer, 45, Deanna Eckert, 57, Thomas Elliott, 63, and James 'Jim' Tutt, 64.
