CHANDLER, ARIZONA: A man in Arizona is being hailed by authorities as a "good Samaritan" after he reportedly shot an active gunman in the parking lot of an Amazon facility, averting further casualties. According to Chandler police, Jacob Murphy, 29, came into an Amazon facility's employee parking lot on Wednesday morning and opened fire after getting out of his car.

According to police, Murphy did not work for Amazon but had "jealousy issues" related to his girlfriend, who did work at the facility but was not in the building at the time. Murphy wanted to find an unidentified male employee at the site who he only knew by his first name, as per the cops. He was stopped from entering the building by a staff member, who thought it was "strange" that Murphy was there. Murphy shot that employee multiple times after an altercation, FOX news reported.

According to Chandler Police, the shooting occurred at around 9:30 am on December 14, 2022, at an Amazon Flex Warehouse located near McQueen and Queen Creek Roads. When an armed Amazon employee on the scene saw the gunman shoot another employee, he drew out his pistol and shot Murphy, inflicting injury.

"As soon as I saw employees running, I just put my van and drive and got out of here as quickly as I could," said Bryton Bobbitt, an Amazon employee, as per FOX 10. "I just heard popping, four or five pops, then went into a co-worker's car and then took off, and then we parked for a minute, then we started hearing more shots," Amazon employee Nick said. "He did come to the aid of an individual who was shot by a suspect. So, in that case, I would say he is a good Samaritan," Sgt Jason McClimans reportedly said.

According to a statement released by police on Friday, Murphy was found dead in the parking lot when they arrived at the scene and the investigation has concluded that he died from both a gunshot wound from the armed employee and a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to the police, the victim who Murphy shot first, "is still recovering and will survive." The person who stepped in to help the victim is not being looked into as a suspect, the Chandler Police Department stated in a statement.

"We're deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence in our parking lot. We're working closely with law enforcement as they investigate and are focused on supporting our team during this difficult time," said Amazon spokesman Richard Rocha, as per the report.
