'Maul: Shadow World' rejects a popular long-standing fan theory regarding the Armorer
One of the most popular 'Star Wars' fan theories has been thrown out of the picture. The long-standing theory in question was about the actual identity of Armorer is Rook Kast, a Mandalorian who once served under Darth Maul, according to Inside the Magic. The theory has been disproven by revelations made in the recently released animated series 'Maul: Shadow World.' The decision to disprove this theory suggests that the creative forces behind the franchise are tightening the narrative. This could be happening to prepare audiences for the upcoming release from the franchise named 'The Mandalorian and Grogu,' where the Armorer's pursuit of uniting different Mandalorian factions could be a major storyline. Hence, it might be important that the audience enter the theater without any false belief regarding the Armorer's identity.
Armorer has long captivated franchise fans with her turn in 'The Mandalorian.' She serves as the leader of the 'Children of the Watch,' a group responsible for carrying out the Mandalorian creed and forging beskar armor. For years, fans have speculated that she is an already established character. Furthermore, many have pointed their fingers at Rook Kast because of her support towards Mandalorians. Rook Kast acted as the second-in-command of Darth Maul in Shadow Collective during The Clone Wars. Kast remained aligned with Darth Maul and, by extension, Shadow Collective until the Siege of Mandalore. After this event, she was captured and imprisoned by Bo-Katan Kryze. Her fate after this remains unknown.
Viewers connected Rook Kast with Armorer due to the latter's armor. Though she sports a gold helmet, her harmor is uncharacteristically red. She also wears a similar armor, which she had forged in her leader's honor. Another observation that supported this connection was the fact that Armorer recognized the Jedi. She was one of the few in the group who did that. Rook Kast knew about the Jedi because she was a follower of the Sith, and she had an antagonistic attitude towards them due to her interactions with them during the Siege of Mandalore. Armorer also shared the same beliefs for the Jedi, seeing them as the enemy of Mandalore.
'Maul: Shadow World,' which deals with Darth Maul's rise and fall in the world of the Jedi, features Rook Kast as a prominent character. Her actions in the show reject the aforementioned well-thought-out theory. Rook Kast clearly follows traditions and practices distinct from those of the Armorer. The one difference that hogged the most limelight was Rook Kast removing her helmet in front of others. Armorer, under no circumstances, gets rid of her helmet, as it is an important tradition for 'Children of the Watch.' Rook is also seen working in accordance with the philosophy centered around Darth Maul, rather than the principles upheld in 'The Mandalorian.' Hence, Rook Kast and Darth Maul likely seem to be distinct entities. What does this mean? It means the time has come for fans to put on their thinking caps and look for other clues about these two characters' identities before one of them possibly takes center stage in 'The Mandalorian and Grogu.'
