Ocasio-Cortez’s was blasted for her getaway as a record number of first responders in New York called out sick heading into New Year’s Eve

New York Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was heavily trolled on Twitter after she was seen vacationing in Florida, ahead of the New Year’s weekend Thursday, December 30, as her own state set a new record for coronavirus infections for the second day in a row. 

The National Review reported that the congresswoman was seen without a mask and drink in hand, as she dined outside in Miami Beach, Florida. The democrat was spotted with a companion at Doraku Sushi and Izakaya, the report said. The photo went viral, with one of them being captioned, "AOC is on vacation in FL while her constituents are suffering in NY. Really says it all. #AOCLovesDeSantis. Trend it."

DeSantis’ office also responded on Twitter. "Welcome to Florida, AOC!" the tweet said. "We hope you’re enjoying a taste of freedom here in the Sunshine State thanks to @RonDeSantisFL’s leadership." "P.S. We recommend the Rock Shrimp Roll and the Aoki Tai the next time you decide to dine in Miami. Cheers!," another tweet said.

Ocasio-Cortez’s was blasted for her getaway as a record number of first responders in New York called out sick heading into New Year’s Eve. More than 20% of the city’s police officers and 30% of paramedics were out sick Thursday. The state reported more than 74,000 new cases on the day as hospitalization also continued to increase. It reached more than 7,300, the report said. The number of ICU patients in New York rose to more than 1,000 on Thursday, noting a steep rise since March.

The hashtag #AOCLovesDeSantis began trending on Twitter with the news of Ocasio-Cortez having the time of her life in Florida going viral, as people on social media mocked the congresswoman for abandoning her struggling state. "#AOCLovesDeSantis ? AOC is not the Governor of New York, we know where she is and she hasn’t advocated to kill her own constituents," one of them said, while another noted, "I heard #AOCLovesDeSantis so much she’s buying property next to Nancy Pelosi." A third commented, "I thought Florida was a waste land of COVID and AOC would never leave her constituents to suffer and die back in her home state. She gave Ted Cruz enough shit for something similar! #AOCLovesDeSantis!" The next remarked, "#AOCLovesDeSantis While NY is suffering from all the Mandates the Government planted on the people! AOC enjoys freedom in FL! This just shows shows, Democrats do not care about their own people! & yet those dumbasses still follow them & do as they are told like good little sheep."
