As New York Governor Andrew Cuomo emerges on the hitlist of Republicans for new revelations outed by top aide Melissa DeRosa about his stonewalling the release of information on Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes, another prominent figure steps in close behind him. He is a man of great controversy, who has both been praised as the face of America's fight against coronavirus as well as dubbed a 'murderer' by protesters.

Dr Anthony Fauci, 80, head of immunology at National Institutes of Health and the director of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984, is under fire for his earlier comments in a CNBC article upholding the New York model and saying that the state had done it "correctly". The Associated Press on Thursday, February 11, recorded a new number of 9,056 recovering patients sent to hundreds of nursing homes being more than 40 per cent higher than the information the state health department had previously released. This raised questions as to whether a March 25 directive from Cuomo’s administration helped spread sickness and death among residents. And following hard on the heels of Cuomo, Fauci, chief medical advisor to President Joe Biden, is now garnering much hatred on social media for allegedly aiding the New York Governor to hide the real numbers.

'This happened on his watch'

Netizens shared a picture of the CNBC headline as one user said, "Doesn't look like he though Cuomo lying wasn't a big deal. Or is Fauci saying that more deaths was the goal?" Another said, "And people are still listening to Fauci who praised Cuomo for his handling of the virus. Let that sink in." One more noted, "Dr Fauci never said a word about Cuomo sending infected patients into nursing homes. We had daily press conferences. This happened on his watch too."

"I remember a female reporter trying to ask him a lot of questions about nursing homes and he would be abrupt and move on quickly," noted another. Many also wanted Fauci to resign along with Cuomo. "Dr Fauci who has been wrong, flip flopped all over the place and praised Cuomo for his handling of Covid should be next to resign," said a tweet. "Fauci can go join Cuomo in federal prison," said another. Fauci was blasted for saying that masks were not important earlier. "Fauci had also told everyone that masks didn't matter early on. Cuomo had said Trump was doing a fantastic job early on until his little nursing home fiasco was starting to ramp up. The virus itself has a high survivability rate. Couldn't make this up even if I tried," said a tweet.

'Doesn't end with Cuomo, Fauci is next'

US Representative from Arizona Andy Biggs said in a tweet, "The more you hear about the Cuomo-New York cover-up, remember that Anthony Fauci profusely praised this government’s handling of COVID-19. Fauci does not deserve one more second of media glory. The horrifying truths about NY should be the last straw. Hold everyone accountable." Another tweet held Fauci responsible, saying, "How many died because of officials like Fauci? Thousands in this country were denied this treatment so Fauci could get his dumb vaccine for a disease that kills less people than the average flu. Just as thousands died needlessly in New York because of Cuomo."

Another tweet said, "cuomo was probably following fauci's orders." Another tweet brought up the time Andrew Cuomo had likened himself and Fauci to stars Al Pacino and Robert De Niro from the famed mafia movie 'The Godfather', to encourage people to get vaccinated. In the video, Cuomo had called Fauci 'America's doctor'. "#Cuomocide #CuomoShouldBeJailed Gov. Cuomo compares himself and Dr. Fauci to ‘The Godfather’ stars De Niro, Pacino," said one tweet. "This doesn't end with #Cuomo, Fauci is next," said another.
