'Another Life' Season 2: The Achaia's secret weapon in their fight against the Salvare may already be aboard the ship

The true nature of the Achaia is first revealed when the Salvare's government representative and resident diplomat, Sasha Harrison (Jake Abel), got an alien spider implant attached to his brain
PUBLISHED AUG 2, 2019

The finale of ‘Another Life’ Season 1 revealed that the mysterious Artifact that landed on Earth at the start of the series, prompting  Commander Niko Breckinridge (Katee Sackhoff) and her crew to depart the planet aboard the Salvare, was sent by a race of aliens called the Achaia.

While the first few episodes of the season led us to believe that these aliens may be potential allies attempting to impart their wisdom (think ‘Arrival’), things took a much darker turn in the finale when the Achaia were revealed to be galactic conquerors who have already enslaved over 300 star systems.

The true nature of the Achaia is first revealed when the Salvare's government representative and resident diplomat, Sasha Harrison (Jake Abel), got an alien spider implant attached to his brain after being trapped in another Artifact from a different planet. Under the control of the implant, Sasha attacked the ship’s computer engineering expert Javier Almanzar (Alexander Eling), leaving him braindead. He then tried to sabotage the Salvare after finding out that the ship can convert gathered energy into a beam that can destroy planets.

While Sasha eventually died by the end of the season, the spider-like implant that was placed in his brain was not destroyed. In fact, the crew of the Salvare repurposed it by getting the ship’s AI William (Samuel Anderson) to interact with the implant and remove the link to the Achaia. This allowed the crew to use the implant to restart Javier’s brain and revive him from his coma-like state.

Though Javier’s return may have been seen as a victory at the time, there’s a very good chance that the young former hacker might become a threat once the Human-Achaian war heats up. Even though William did claim to have completely “de-fanged” the device, the Achaia are miles ahead of humans in terms of technological advancement and there’s a very good chance that Javier might even now be a sleeper agent without even realizing it.

William might have managed to temporarily shut down the implant’s programming but the season’s final moments show him beginning to unravel, suggesting that the troubled AI might not be running at full power. This might mean that the Achaian programming could resurface and take control of Javier and, considering the engineer’s prodigious skill, this could be a huge problem for the Salvare.

While it is currently unconfirmed whether ‘Another Life’ will be returning for a second season, the show’s star Katee Sackhoff is hopeful that the series will be renewed and has teased a lot more surprises in store for fans in the show’s future.

All 10 episodes of ‘Another Life’ Season 1 are currently available for streaming exclusively on Netflix.
