Will Netflix renew 'Anne with an E'? Petition gains 1 million signatures from fans hoping for Season 4
'Anne With an E' has surpassed all records and become the number one Netflix series to have received the biggest response from fans who are asking to revive it for another season. Multiple fans have created change.org petitions setting various goals in terms of the number of signatures. Fans of the show have been quick to sign them with over a million signatures hoping their favorite show gets taken up by another network since CBS and Netflix canceled it after the finale episode of Season 3 aired. Now the question is will the efforts put in by fans result in a revival?
Anne With an 'E' is based on a book by Lucy Montgomery titled 'Anne of Green Gables', published in 1908. It tells the story of a 13-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley and her unique experience of family and adolescence in the late 19th century. In a joint statement, CBC and Netflix announced in 2019 that 'Anne With an E' would end with its third season, writing that they have "been thrilled to bring the quintessentially Canadian story of 'Anne With an E' to viewers around the world" and "hope fans of the show love this final season as much as we do and that it brings a satisfying conclusion to Anne’s journey."
The popularity of the show is such that earlier this year fans spent money out of their own pockets to put up a billboard in Times Square, New York City, on January 24, to alert the masses about the cancellation of the show in an effort to save the hit series. A week prior to this, fans spent money to buy billboard space across Canada as well and there were also reports saying people were buying billboards on highways in states such as Texas.
Season 3 of 'Anne with an E' gathered 17 nominations including best lead actress for Amybeth McNulty and best drama series being the headline nominations. Heartbroken fans of the canceled series have been waxing poetic about it while also requesting another season. "Why was I ever introduced to 'Anne with an E', it’s all I think about 24/7, I’ve had two consecutive dreams of being at green gables, I bought the 8 books because the series ending left me with despair, I’m a simp for Gilbert Blythe JUST GIVE ME SEASON 4 SO I CAN RELAX PLS IM BEG," wrote a fan.
"I woke up this morning feeling upset over the fact that there’s not gonna be another new 'Anne with an E' season anymore," wrote another. Another tweet read, "I’ve finally done it. I’ve finished Anne with an E, and can I just say that this show has told the most beautiful story I have ever heard. I wish I had the opportunity to see more of it. Perhaps one day I will. #RenewAnneWithAnE ANNE ONE MILLION."
