'Anne with an E' Season 3 Episode 9 Review: Anne and Gilbert's romance gets turned into a cat and mouse game

With just one more episode to go, we really do need an answer to whether Gilbert will make the right decision regarding his future and if Ka'kwet will be rescued from the vile school.

Major spoilers for Season 3 Episode 9 of 'Anne with an E' ahead

Those of us who have read 'Anne of Green Gables' have known that Anne (Amybeth McNulty) and Gilbert's (Lucas Jade Zumann) paths are going towards each other since the very beginning of 'Anne with an E'. We have been patient through all the character groundwork and storylines that took them away from each other, and yet, as the show continues to portray missed opportunities with their romance, it is hard to remain calm.

In Season 3 Episode 9 of the Netflix/CBC series, we see that Anne, who has finally come to terms with her feelings for Gilbert has written him a note, inspired by Marilla (Geraldine James). Unfortunately, though, Anne's letter never reached Gilbert, because it kept getting moved and later destroyed under his own shoes. While Gilbert remains painfully oblivious to Anne's feelings, he mulls over his future. It is truly frustrating to see these moments any of which could have the moment where they confessed their love for one another.

Meanwhile, Anne is tasked with going on a new adventure, but unfortunately not a fun one. Ka'kwet (Kiawenti:io Tarbell), who had escaped her abusive school was taken away by brute force, and there was nothing her family could have done. Her parents reach out to Anne for help, and although Marilla's prejudice against the "heathens" stops her from letting Anne go, she comes around when she realizes that she is looking at another mother who is worried about her daughter.

Anne, Matthew (R. H. Thomson), and Ka'Kwet's parents set out on a mission to bring her back home, and even as they ask for her, the authorities decide to not let her out. It is clear to Anne what is happening is unjust, and yet, because it is clear that the government is a part of this cruel ploy to eradicate the Native culture and way of living. Anne and her travel companions are yet ignorant of this, of course, and so, Ka'kwet's parents force her to return home while they wait for justice to be served.

With just one more episode to go, we really do need an answer to whether Gilbert will make the right decision regarding his future and if Ka'kwet will be rescued from the vile school. Don't forget to binge-watch Season 3 of 'Anne with an E' on Netflix.
