Major spoilers for 'Anne with an  E' Season 3 Episode 8 ahead

All 'Anne of Green Gables' fans have been counting down to the moment when Anne (Amybeth McNulty) and Gilbert (Lucas Jade Zumann) would confess their undying love for each other ever since the show's premiere, and that day seems to be inching closer and closer.

Especially with the Queens Entrance Exam around the corner and the potential parting of ways, Season 3 Episode 8 seemed like the perfect occasion to save this moment.

Turns out, we were wrong — to an extent. As all of Anne's classmates prepare for their future education, she is plagued not only by the prospect of getting into the college of her dreams but also by her unfamiliar feelings for Gilbert.

The whole class writes and presumably excels at the entrance exam, and as a way of blowing off steam, they sneak off to the Ruins to celebrate.

Meanwhile, Gilbert is under extra pressure. He has been offered his entire future on a silver platter by Winifred's (Ashleigh Stewart) father, including an apartment in Paris and an admission to the Sorbonne University.

The choice seems obvious, ask Winifred to marry him, and yet something is stopping him — Anne. He does not know how Anne feels about him, but they did have some tender moments together throughout the season. It would be callous of him to ignore all that and set the course for his future in another continent.

In the end, he decides that he cannot make any decision without talking to Anne first. He visits the Ruins to meet his friends and is made speechless by Anne's beauty as she dances by the flames of the campfire.

He tells Anne what Winifred's father proposed and in response to her question about what is holding him back, he says, "Just one thing." Anne knows this one thing to be her, she knows it in her heart, and yet, she is not able to give him an answer.

Taking her silence to be the answer he needed Gilbert goes away, and Anne is left with a whole lot of confusion.

While Anne and Gilbert's story takes precedence in this episode, Ka'kwet's (Kiawenti:io Tarbell) escape from the vile school the government tricked her into attending is also important. Her perseverance is admirable, and it remains to be seen how her story proceeds on the show.
