New Anna Nicole Smith documentary reveals her first meeting with Larry Birkhead

Smith was often suspected of having affairs secretly. She was married twice, first to Billy Smith and then to J Howard Marshall. Her intimate affairs were never made public. Birkhead's magical encounter with the iconic supermodel at Kentucky Derby was the beginning of their rollercoaster four-year relationship.

‘She blew me kisses’
Birkhead met Smith in 2003 at the Kentucky Derby. According to the the Daily Mail, he said, “She blew me kisses and I was intrigued by her, nothing came out of it. The second year I saw her at the Kentucky Derby gala, however, was magical," adding, “I think when she came back in 2004 to the party that her confidence had changed. And she was a totally different person. The second year when she came back that is when the magic happened."
Birkhead continued, “She was blowing me kisses, but I thought she was doing that for everyone. Being flirtatious for the camera. I never thought that she would want some guy like me from Kentucky when she could have any guys who wants."
According to Birkhead, Smith asked if he wanted to photograph her for a charity event for a children’s camp through her people. He went to her and sparks flew. He said that Smith gave him her phone number, and he was surprised that she answered when he called her. After a few weeks, Smith asked him to move in with her in LA.
Birkhead said, “This was three months after we ran into each other at the Kentucky Derby. Of course I said yes. When I first went there, I looked around her house and I asked her, where am I going to stay?” In response, she pointed to the bedroom and said, “In here with me." They lived together for two-and-a-half years, and nobody knew about their secret relationship.
Smith did not want Birkhead to come under public scrutiny. He said, "If you look at the videos, you’ll always find me in the back holding my camera." Their relationship ended when she became pregnant with his child, and she left him to stay in the Bahamas after a heated argument.
Why did Anna Nicole Smith leave Larry Birkhead?
When Smith was five months pregnant with Dannielynn, they got into an argument, which resulted in her leaving him to go to the Bahamas. Birkhead said, “We were living together and doing baby planning. We were picking out names for our baby," adding, “Despite what anyone says, Anna knew I was the father." When Smith gave birth to Dannielynn in September 2006, she listed her-then partner, Howard K Stern, as the father on the birth certificate.
However, after her daughter's birth, Smith's relationship with Birkhead became much more complicated as he filed a lawsuit to prove he was the father, and a DNA test confirmed it, giving him parental rights. Before her death, she and Birkhead were in touch, expressing gratitude for what they had once.
When asked if there was anything about his daughter that resembled Smith, Birkhead said, “Yeah she can spend my money like her mom. And she loves to do that," adding, "Dannielynn is on the honor roll and she makes great grades. She is taking college level classes. Anna would be very, very proud of her. I know I am."
