Anderson Cooper fat-shames Trump and says 'obesity is an underlying condition', MAGA supporters call him 'moron'

'Is that the country we now want to live in? If so, the president might want to look in the mirror or get on a scale because he is elderly, and obesity is an underlying condition,' Cooper said

CNN news host Anderson Cooper came under fire on Tuesday, September 22, for seemingly fat-shaming President Donald Trump for stating at a rally in Ohio on Monday that the novel coronavirus “affects virtually nobody" despite the United States already crossing the 200,000 threshold for deaths due to the deadly virus.

During the rally, Trump said, “It affects elderly people, elderly people with heart problems and other problems. If they have other problems, that’s what it really affects, that’s it. You know, in some states thousands of people, nobody young. Below the age of 18, like nobody. They have a strong immune system. Who knows? Take your hat off to the young, because they have a hell of an immune system. But it affects virtually nobody. It’s an amazing thing.”

While hosting his show 'Anderson Cooper 360°', the anchor reacted to Trump's words by saying, “It affects elderly people. That’s it, he says. Among anyone else, it affects virtually nobody in his words — virtually nobody. Actually, Mr President, it has affected and sickened and killed people in every age group, from toddlers to the oldest Americans. We’ve seen college football players develop heart issues. Children get strokes. We’ve seen people of all ages get sick. It certainly is deadlier to seniors, but anyone can get sick, and anyone can pass it on to other people. But even if you believe that it only affects elderly people, as the president said, meaning it kills them, are elderly people now disposable in this society? Is that the country we now want to live in? If so, the president might want to look in the mirror or get on a scale because he is elderly, and obesity is an underlying condition.”

He added, “Whatever the president’s motivations were for saying what he said, he never publicly said or acted on what he knew. And even as the outbreak grew, he kept sounding the alarm privately about the virus he said publicly would just magically disappear.”

Needless to say, the president's supporters were not happy about Cooper's attacks and as a result, took to social media and wrote scathing remarks, targeting his sexual orientation. "Hey @andersoncooper it also affects immunocompromised individuals of a certain lifestyle living with HIV. Just sayin’," one wrote, while another said, "Spoken like a true Trump-hating liberal..." A third remarked, "Hey Anderson, maybe Trump is 'Portly,' but you're Queer.....and a Moron. At least Trump can diet!" A fourth commented, "Really @andersoncooper, is this what you have become?" A fifth said, "Vile sodomite says what???"

However, there were also Cooper's fans who agreed with the statements made by him during the show. One of them said, "For Trump, everyone is disposable. I keep wondering how Trump hasn't gotten COVID yet because constant testing doesn't prevent someone from getting the virus." Another wrote, "Something to ponder. We have lost 200,000 victims to the virus and there is questionable talk about the frailty of Social Security? They were not all elderly but certainly represented the majority. We need to search for politicians who will not treat us like bumps on a log." A third commented, "Of course they are expendable. Anyone not white, male, straight & rich is expendable as far as the Republican Party is concerned. There is no 'both-side-isms'. That's a straw man argument. The conservative party has systematically been dehumanizing all not exactly like them." A fourth opined, "Ha! True. Obese, narcissistic monster." And a fifth said, "Damn that is cold! Stating that Trump should Look in the mirror and get on a scale!! LOVE IT!!"
