Ana Moreno: Texas mother killed by stray bullet while accompanying daughter, 18, to select prom dress

DALLAS, TEXAS: A Texas mother was shot to death after she was hit by a stray bullet while she drove one of her daughters to help her to get her prom dress. Ana Moreno, 39, seemed to have been caught up in a daytime gun battle between two vehicles.

The innocent mother of three was shot in the shootout near a Dallas mall on Saturday, May 13. Three men are also in critical condition following the tragic incident. It remains unclear whether the three men were bystanders or suspected shooters, according to New York Post.

'I just wanted her to be OK' 

Talking to Fox 4, Amy Rodriguez, youngest daughter of slain Moreno said that they were on their way to pick her prom dress and to get her hair done, they heard "really loud gunshots, and really close to us."

Tearfully recalling the incident, Amy said, "I told her to keep going," and Moreno signaled at her throat that she could not continue further. "We crashed … she fell on me, and when I looked at her I [saw] blood — and I knew. I didn’t care about prom. I didn’t care about anything. I just wanted her to be OK," Amy said of her mom. Ana was shifted to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead. "It’s hard. I just still can’t believe it," her daughter said.

'She was so excited for us to graduate, that’s all she wanted'

Jacob Faz, a witness told the outlet that he pulled over his vehicle he drove past the incident with his wife after he saw the distraught daughter of Ana. The girl "looked panicked. She was trying to get somebody to help her mom. She was scared," the witness said and added that there was nothing they could do to help the shot woman. "She wasn’t breathing. I checked for a pulse," Faz said.

17-year-old Michelle Rodriguez, the other daughter of Moreno said of her mom that she "was so excited to see [Amy] get ready for prom." Michelle said that Moreno "was excited for everything. She was so excited for us to graduate, that’s all she wanted," and added, "She didn’t deserve it. She didn’t."

According to a fundraiser aiming to raise $15,000 for Moreno's funeral expenses, stated that she also had a son. Authorities said that no arrests have been made in the case.
