All eyes are on who will be President Donald Trump’s nomination for SCOTUS. According to two sources familiar with the process, Trump has supposedly decided to select Judge Amy Coney Barrett to fill the Supreme Court seat left vacant by Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s death, according to NBC news.

Even though, a formal announcement is awaited. As per the report, a formal announcement is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at the White House. If this is true, 48-year-old Barrett, a federal appeals court judge who has been consistently conservative on issues like abortion, would be the youngest justice on the high court. Her appointment would also strengthen a conservative majority, as she would be taking over from one of the court's most outspoken liberals.

While the ‘experts’ of Twitter have been discussing the potential replacement for quite some time, there were a few who indulged in unwarranted personal comments. A few dragged her children in the conversation. A user by the name Dana Houle commented, “I would love to know which adoption agency Amy Coney Barrett & her husband used to adopt the two children they brought here from Haiti.”  Another said, “I wonder if the President knows that two of Amy Coney Barrett’s children are immigrants from Haiti. How fortunate we are to have them in our country.”

The tweet by Houle sparked a lot of conversation and a lot of the users came in support of Barrett and stated that it was distasteful to drag her children. One user wrote: “Democrats are already going after Amy Coney Barrett's adopted black children from Haiti. These people are sick.” Another commented, “Fmr. Scalia clerk & Judge Amy Coney Barrett is unquestionably one of the brightest & most respected conservative jurists in the country. She’s a mother to seven, including 2 adopted from Haiti & 1 with developmental disabilities. Well done, @realDonaldTrump.” One supporter stated, “Big big fan of Amy Coney Barrett, smart, young, female textualist. Mother of 7, 5 biological, 2 adopted from Haiti, all around good person. I also really look forward to the democrats attacks on her Catholicism.” Music video director Robby Starbuck said, "Democrats, If you attack Amy Coney Barrett’s kids who we’re adopted from Haiti as this Democrat staffer did, we will never, and I mean never, forgive or forget it."

Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch, wrote: “I want to know what these people think Amy Coney Barrett’s sinister motive would be to adopt kids from Haiti. I mean spell it out. Even if you’re against interracial adoption, what makes you think she’s evil for doing it? I mean come on.” Another user said, “Amy Coney Barrett, Catholic, mother of 7, is almost purpose-built to drive some people into fits of rage. It won’t take long before she’s attacked for having too many children, being too Catholic, for adopting kids from Haiti, etc. All of her virtues will be decried as vice.” American conservative activist Kyle Kashuv said, “Democrats going after Amy Coney Barrett for adopting two of her children from Haiti. My God.”

Barrett is graduate from Notre Dame University Law School and has clerked for the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia. She has seven children with her husband Jesse. Two of the couple’s children were born in Haiti, and the couple also has a special needs child, according to Heavy.com. During her confirmation hearing to the federal bench in 2017, she spoke about her children. Three oldest daughters were accompanying her to the hearing.

She spoke at length about them. She said, “Emma is 16. The first apple of our eye,” Barrett told the Judiciary Committee. “Vivian, directly next to Emma, is 13. Vivian is our miracle. Vivian joined our family… She was born in Haiti. She came home when she was 14-months-old, and she weighed 11 pounds and she was so weak we were told she might never walk normally or speak. Today Vivian is a track star, and I assure you she has no trouble talking. Tess, sitting next to Vivian, is also 13-years-old. Both in 8th grade. She’s one of the most compassionate and determined people that I know.”

Barrett spoke lovingly about her remaining children as well. She said, “Our four children at home are with friends and fearless babysitters. John Peter is 10. He was born in Haiti. He joined our family in 2010 when he was three years old after the devastating earthquake.” Barrett continued, “Liam is 8. Typically curious 8-year-old. And Juliet is our spunky 6-year-old. Benjamin, our youngest, is five. He has special needs. That presents unique challenges for all of us. But I think all you need to know about Benjamin’s place in the family is summed up by the fact the other children unreservedly identify him as their favorite sibling.”
