NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA: In new development in rapper Mystikal's sexual assault case, the Grammy-nominated artist will now be arraigned on rape and other charges. If convicted, he will directly face life imprisonment under the charges of first-degree rape. The New Orleans rapper will also face charges of choking the victim, and illegally possessing drugs at his Louisiana home.

Mystikal attorney Joel Pearce responded, “My client is innocent of all charges. He had a court order to protect him from the woman, and he is ‘the true victim’.” Pearce further said that he ‘hopes he will be allowed to present evidence supporting bond for Michael Tyler’, the documented name of rapper Mystikal. The performer has been held without bond since July end. On August 4, a Judge denied the plea for a bond, however, the attorney of the accused made a point that ‘it was not a full bond hearing that would take evidence in Tyler's favor.’

The rapper was taken into custody on July 31 on the charges levied against him of choking and raping a woman at his residence in Prairieville, near Baton Rouge. As per a news release from the district attorney's office said, “Tyler was indicted last week on 10 counts including rape, domestic abuse battery by strangulation and false imprisonment. Investigators who searched his home found evidence to corroborate the victim’s account of the rape along with a variety of illegal narcotics.”

On September 6, an Ascension Parish jury had brought the charges against Mystikal in two indictments, the Advocate reported. District Attorney Ricky Babin via an email said, “That because they are part of an ongoing criminal matter, the indictments are not public records under state law.” Tyler had to stay in jail for around 18 months before being released on a $3 million bond for rape and kidnapping in December 2020.

In his interview with the Associated Press in April 2021, Mystikal said that ‘he now is proud of lyrics he can imagine rapping to God.’
