LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The nominations for the 80th annual Golden Globes have been announced and like every year, there were a lot of surprises in the list of nominees. Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ led the list with 8 noms while ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ received six nominations, incuding Best Picture. However, the absence of ‘Women Talking’ from the main categories annoyed a lot of movie-goers. Directed by Sarah Polley, the movie primarily focuses on a group of women who has the chance to decide how they want their future to be. The women of a particular place are being sexually abused by men and are told that they are getting a punishment for their sins. However, things change drastically when two young women catch a guy who was trying to abuse them by using a drug. Now, the women need to decide if they want to live there or or not.

The movie garnered universal acclaim for its epic storytelling, great ensemble, and amazing direction. The movie failed to garner a nomination in any of the main categories, but didn’t go empty-handed as it was nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. Shockingly, the movie couldn’t make it to the Best Picture (Drama) list and actors such as Jessie Buckley and Claire Foy were snubbed in the Supporting Actress category.

Fans were really frustrated with Polley and movie’s absence from the main categories and slammed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) for snubbing such a terrific movie. One of the fans said, “the fact the golden globes nominated blonde and not women talking says a lot.” Another social media user wrote, “Sarah Polley really deserved! This is really unfair.” Another fan tweeted, “Women Talking was outstanding. Polley deserved a nomination. What a disappointment.”

The movie, which stars Buckley, Foy, Rooney Mara, Judith Ivey, Michelle McLeod, and Ben Whishaw in pivotal roles, has been one of the most-acclaimed movies of the year and won several accolades earlier in the year. But the film’s absence from the main categories at the Golden Globes is shocking.

Nevertheless, movies like ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘TAR’, ‘Elvis’, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’, and ‘The Fabelmans’ are the nominees in the Best Picture (Drama) category.
